On the Sprinter Source forum, a gentleman posted a lot of nice pictures of his short-wheelbase Sprinter in various exotic locations, such as:

Since we don't have practical access to 4x4 Sprinters in the US and Canada, they don't have much of a reputation as overlanding vehicles. But if you look at the thread and the terrain being handled, I think you can see how a converted Sprinter would make be a fine selection.
