as of late...

a little paint...

It's got an industrial look to 'er.

Still intend to paint the tub Lunar Mist.
one day... ;)

But at this time... the tub has to be removed again so that I may finish the frame restoration and paint that.

I hope to hell I'm done with this before February...
crap... that will have been a year, from my start date.

But of course I realize... I'll probably never really be done with 'er.
but I, at least, can be done with this stage.

Decided not to cut off the hinges extra tongue length...
was thinking of making sliders, mounted to those tabs, to protect the hinges as well as the side of the trailer/fender when it flops...

I was thinking 1" - 1 1/4" round tube... ?
Kinda like to break up the mostly square look of things.

I'm terrible with paint... and gimp is confusing as hell...

so here's my best attempt at a description of the proposed slider...
Of course I'd like a radius rather then sharp 90* corners of that.

What ya'll think of this idea ?

Metal bushing (s) / grease seal (s)

I discussed earlier my attempt at purchasing the oem optional metal bushings for these hinges... and I have had success in doing that.

I highly recommend this option over the crappy plastic stuff that breaks easily. They fit great... better then the plastic IMO

I left the center hinges with out bushings (tho' I have them)
because tolerances are tight (tighter then the Farmex QDC pins)... and the barbell lock has no worthy handle to pull on for removal...
Besides... doubt I'll want to grease the lock up anyhow. (messy)

Left metal, right plastic.

this tent is obsolete and no longer available.
And other then the trademark name "Car Top Tent"
I'm not even sure whom the original distributor was.
sorry.

reality check

And now that I've gotten past the oddity of this sky reaching tent...
here's an realistic approach, of how I'll be accessing the trailer tub's interior when the RTT is open and in camp.

btw... the RTT's extended platform (open) will reach the ground without touching the fender. sweet how some things work out.

The counter balance of the RTT extended platform (open)... makes this operation feather lite... requiring only one hand to lift. :)

tho' it's still a tad heavy to lift when the RTT is in the closed position...
and so... some gas support struts will be integrated (at least to one side) so as to assist in opening the lid and accessing the tub,
when the RTT is closed.

What happens to all the stuff in the tent when you open it like that? :ylsmoke:

Can you leave the ladder deployed and have it hinge at the center?

IMGP3195.JPG

That way the sleeping bag , pillows and clothes migrate to the center rather than a heap at the end?

I've not tested that yet...
But in theory... I'm purdy sure... it will do exactly that.

Beautiful!

I took the day today and repaired a little hole in the window netting on our RTT. I also added a "stuff" net to the edge behind the ladder. The net organizer is one of those out of an SUV I believe. It now hangs just behind the ladder and gives us a place to put our dirty shoes for the night.
It lays nicely across the top under the ladder when folded for storage.

One thing I need to gather up is a piece of astro turf to place under the ladder. I had been using a tarp , but it is tough to be stealthy in the middle of the night when nature calls.

Hopefully your next pictures will be out enjoying it somewhere. Great work.

Thought I'd ask for an opinion...

I'm needing to make or have made...
a cover for this RTT...
and was wondering what color some of you might choose...

The trailer's tub will eventually get sprayed Lunar Mist...
and with that in mind...

I was trying to decide on either black or silver/light gray...

so what color would you all think looks best... if it were yer junk ?
