235s suck a ton of power, 245's seem to be the biggest and least noticable

The 235's will definitely be better than the 255s...don't know if I want to go down to a 245/70.

I love the clearance I have now and want to retain as much as possible...just trying to find the happy medium. There's going to be concessions no matter which size I go with.

Why not keep your current tires, and swap to an electric cooling fan? You would regain some of the power lost due to the tire size increase and depending on how you wire it it could actually get your truck to run cooler, along with your A/C.

Yeah, that's the way that I'm leaning. I'm still weighing buying the new tires vs. just doing the re-gearing. Tires is probably going to end up being the cheaper of the two...but then I have to consider tire size availability in the long run. And the "cheapest" route isn't my goal here. Though the re-gearing might be something I do later on anyway. Eh, maybe I just need some sleep. :costumed-smiley-007

Ive gotten thermostats at Auto Zone, they seem to be happier with the 180, I think stock is ~195.
I don't think so.
The OEM 88C thermostat is supposed to be fully open at 88.

In the US it seems thermostat temps are when they start to open. That's why a 180F works better than a 195F.
At least that's what I found testing thermostats with a pot of water and mercury thermometer.

Disclaimer: I've extrapolated this since the manual doesn't really say. But manuals for other Land Rover engines say "fully open" at 88, so I'm making the assumption that it's not a situation of some Land Rover thermostats being partly open at 88 and others fully open at 88.

My main concern is (as witnessed this past weekend) the tires/gearing causing this thing to be a slug going up hills.

Are 235/85s going to make that much of a difference?

And if I decide to sell I will let you know.

Those 255/85s that you are running are almost a 34 in. tire in diameter whereas a 235/85 tire is a 32. When you swap over you will notice a huge difference. If you want to see what a 235/85 looks like on a 3in. lift go to my build thread.

I second the 235/85. Those tires put so much extra strain on the rig. I love my 235/85 tires.

Yeah...I think I have settled on the 235/85. I'll let you know which ones I decide on, but I'm leaning towards the BFG KM2s or just some BFG ATs.

Sorry, I was only testing domestic thermostats to find what was fully open at 88C (190F).

I gotcha...just thought I'd ask. :sombrero:

235/85/16 are 31.7" tires
Wider
275/85/16 are 34.4" tires
265/75/16 are 31.7" tires

I'm thinking of going to a 305/315 if I can find a cheap set to try

Have there been any issues with the re-treads? They sure would be a nice way to save some $$ but would that savings be at the cost of safety?
