trying to fit 32 or 33

Here is what I am thinking:

Purchasing the flat plastic type fender flares from Bushwacker or Xenon.

I want to put 32 or 33 tires under my 04 ruby red rubicon.

If needed I may add a 1" body lift and etc...

I was trying to keep my stock suspension for now possibly get Mickey thompsons sidebiter rims in black and add 1" wheel spacers if needed.

I am trying to do something different as I mostly explore backroads not really into the rock crawling thing but I do like to watch it.

I went to a shop near my home and the shop recommended a 4" lift to run 33's but I know the wealth of knowledge here will guide me to a smart decision and options.

thanks

Check out Rokmen they specialize in jeeps with small lifts and 33 -42 tires. They know and love jeeps they will not send you in the wrong direction. Dont get fooled not all the jeeps they build are on huge tires. There products are built in house and have great customer service/ warranty.

I was in a JK with 35x10.50 Swamper Boggers with no lift. It rubbed a little but nothing a bumpstop spacer would not have fixed. I would not lift it an inch for 33's. The stock suspension is so nice on those I'd build around it.

His is an '04, so it would be a TJ.

To fit 33's on a TJ, a BB (Budget Boost-gains about 2") would work. Might need some longer bumpstops to alleviate all rubbing at full flex.

Here's my buddy Daves rig. I'm pretty sure he has no body lift, just a 2" BB right now.

He has since removed the wheel spacers and swapped the flares for stock Rubi ones. Tires are 33"

Me too

This is what most shops will tell you but not really accurate. For more info on the setup you're looking for, try searching "Low center of gravity" at JeepForum.com

I'm running 3 inch currie lift with AEV 3 inch springs. 33" goodyear kev, soft 8's wheels with 4.5 backspacing. Don't forget, when you get bigger tires, you'll need to regear the diffs, I went with 4.56 with the 5 speed manual and it is perfect.

This setup is perfect for riding FS roads and is very capable to get you thru the tough spots. I really didn't like the look of all the space betwee the wheels and body when you go 4 inch and higher, not to mention all the other drawbacks about sitting that high.

EDIT: Mine is not a Rubicon. 2002 TJ... Similar, but results may very.

Ran 33's on black rock crawler rims on my 06 LJ. Before I got my RE lift, I just ran the the 2" spacers (BB) and did fine. There is some rub at full stuff but it wasn't bad. As said, you could extend your bumpstop to solve that.

Potential tire interference will depend on the width of the tire you want to run. I have been running 255/85-16 tires for the last 55k miles with only a 1.25" body lift and a completely stock suspension. I have VERY light contact between the edge of the tire tread and the stock sway bar at full lock. It does not damage the tire or the sway bar (just scuffs it shiny). Washers under the steering stop bolts would prevent this, but a 5 degree adjustment in steering input is all it takes to end the contact. Flare coverage is complete, as the tire is only 10mm wider than the stock Rubicon MTRs, but it is a true 33"+ tall tire.

IMO, there is no need to spend $$ on wheels, spacers, or suspension upgrads to put true 33" tires on a Rubicon. However, if you run a wide 33" tire, then you will have flare contact/ & coverage issues, and will probably have to use bump stop spacers and wheel spacers.

I run a 2.5" Rancho Rock Crawler lift with 32" KM2s. With my ARB front bumber, M8000 Winch, Wildboar rack, Garvin rear bumper w/ full size spare, and camping gear I would get some fender rubbing, so I trimmed the fenders. The lift needed to be higher or springs needed to be stiffer to run 32's while camping. I sold the ARB and winch and replaced it with a stubby stock bumper. I took of the Wildboar rack (FOR SALE. PM if interested) and I gained a little over 1.5 inches. I think I could now run 33's. The weight you are carrying is going to determine what size lift you run.

Whats wrong with your current fender flairs?

I want to put 32 or 33 tires under my 04 ruby red rubicon.

Why?

If needed i may add a 1" body lift and tummy tucker.

Yes! This will allow for a tummy tucker and you will need a 1"motor mount lift. Thus getting rid of the #1 thing stock wranglers get stuck on.

I was trying to keep my stock suspension for now.

Yes do it, you have a stock rubicon which is more than capable for the needs you stated.

Possibly get mickey thompsons sidebiter rims in black and add 1" wheel spacers if needed.

that would make sense, 3-4" of suspension lift will articulate nicely with 255/85/r16s

but i know the wealth of knowledge here will guide me to a smart decision and options.:coffeedrink:

2" Budget boost (coil spacers)
1" Body lift + move fan shroud 1"

or

2" Budget boost (coil spacers)
1" Body lift + 1" Motor mount lift

Done.

I have the second option and run 33 x 10.5s, disconnected sway bar, and no rubbing. When I had 33 x 12.5 I rubbed slightly at full turn when my wheel was fully compressed into the wheel well.

The 1" body lift actually helps with numerous other improvements you may want to make in the future, but I wouldn't go larger than 1". The motor mount lift fixes the misalignment of the fan shroud, but also helps your driveline angle.
