I hate smug.. it has the most counter intuitive interface I've seen of all the popular online photo hosting sites. Really distracts from the photo viewing experience.

Smug Mug offers a way to actually build your own customized web page. I do not believe it is free though. Lots of photogs use Smugmug almost as a stepping stone to other site advertising/ store front setups. To get the better options with smugmug of course you have to spend $$$.

I switched to SmugMug from Photobucket initially because SmugMug allows full size storage if you want and they don't damage your image quality by compressing like so many other sites do.

Easy share links to post any image size you want into forums. Tons of ways to customize how you view and control your photo galleries as far as public or private visibility and download protection when you want that.

They are also linked into very professional print labs like BayPhoto for quality prints on a wide variety of media if you want that.

Personally, me like SmugMug. :wings:

I use SmugMug and really like it.

Also, there is a strong relationship between SmugMug and ADVrider...I believe it's the same owner or something along these lines. Just fyi.

Smugmug isn't perfect but IMO it's loads better than most other hosting sites when you consider the price, and that it's so very easy to customize. You can make it as messy or as clean as you'd like. I prefer to keep the layout of my pages simple and clean.

Link to my webpage as an example.

I don't know what you mean. The interface is pretty simple. Are-you sure you are not confusing it with another service?

The major thing is the thumbnails.. can you even have an entire photos category show up in a grid of thumbnails? The only implementations I've seen are like a few thumbnails per page and 20 pages of thumbnails.. I just want to get a quick overview of the entire gallery.

You can but it's not the most attractive way to display ones photos. Of course the owner can also enable, if they choose, a setting to allow the viewer choose the page layout.

Edit: Here I enabled viewer control on one of my galleries so you can see what it's like.

I just deleted my flicker account last week. I had two photos on it. I wanted to see how it worked and never actually ever used it. Besides, flicker has a reputation for having work pilfered off of it, so I don't trust it.

I am hiring an intern to build me a site this year. I am not sure how I am going to represent all of the different stuff I am working on, so it might be a clumsy process mentally.

I don't know about this, I would have to look.

But I think you should be careful how your phrase your replies.

There is a huge difference between not being able to display the thumbnails the way you like it and saying "it has the most counter-intuitive I have seen of all the popular online photo hosting sites".

That is of course your opinion but quite a strong statement that could be taken the wrong way by someone who has no experience with these sites.

Hey thanks for the link..

However I still see 4 pages of thumbnails.. does smug mug offer the option of defaulting to a single page thumbnails only matrix?
