Not sure what the size is, and I know you wanted inexpensive, but OMG the Exped Megamats are WONDERFUL. I went through lots of different pads, etc in my van and camper before I finally got one and I am so sorry I waited so long. I like it so much I take it out and use it at home. Worked wonders...
Small is expensive. If one wants cheaper, then one of the non slide in "topper" style truck campers would be a better deal, the Project M etc types. I hope they work out. Seems to be one of the areas in RV land that isn't retracting right now.
Tall is a PITA in cities too. No parking garages or carports, for instance. And offroad it can be a headache. But you can work around it; lots of bigger trucks do. And maybe your offroading won't be that difficult. Still, helps if it's light and tall vs heavy and tall too.
You are going to need to set some priorities. Even more so when and if the child comes.
If the priority is get over tough trails, then no camper. Use tents. And maybe a smaller vehicle, although you've already got a large crew.
If the priority is comfortable camping, maybe a bigger HD truck...
Yeah, my Hawk non flatbed slide in has a lot less clearance over the cab than that one pictured. The comments are more about the choice of tray.
The new lithiums make total sense. I don't know why they stuck with lead acid so long. And the new heater looks better.
I don't care for under bed...
Funny, I like them BECAUSE of the thirty year tech.
But even I finally caved and went lithium.
I think the "upgrades" add like say 200 lbs to the Hawk slide in build vs 1000 before. Maybe beefier roof, etc, even without the AC or under bed storage (which may add height). Both things I...
I'm with @dstefan. I've moved on to a slide in with built in, but in both a van and pickup with shell I just used a stove etc on some sort of shelf, etc inside. And outside on picnic tables or a table I carried. Or by the side of the truck. Or on the tailgate. Even carried a two burner Colemen...
I went with a FWC, since tried and true. And nearby, and helpful and fast with repairs and warranty. As is usually the case, I expect some companies here now might not be here in a few years. Hope so, but the history of the RV industry is littered with fails.
Apple and AAA teamed up to allow users of the iPhone 14 and 15 Pros to message AAA for roadside service when out of cellular range. AAA members get the roadside service per the regular part of their plan. Non AAA members would pay out of pocket. Apple isn't charging for the sat service for at...
Like slomatt I used the Sports Basement refill program; basically free propane to loyalty members. Tanks worked fine; no issues. i've now switched to a ten pound tank though.
I'm not a bankruptcy lawyer but I doubt those campers on the floor in a state of construction are "yours." Any more than that F150 you ordered on the line in Detroit is yours. It's under the control of a trustee if in bankruptcy, and breaking in to take it could be construed as commercial...
Yes.
Can't speak to Zoleo much, but the Motorola is less expensive up front, and less per month for the plan. A free first year.
It uses Immarsat I believe; Garmin uses Iridium. The Motorola is currently limited I think to Europe and the USA (not much of Canada, not sure about AK). There are...
