A 1/2 Ton In The Making

Glass fenders, bigger/taller tires, no-lift more travel suspension system, and a hidden front winch. Sprinkle with some ARB lockers and new gears, perhaps a 9" rear diff upgrade. Also don't forget a nice light aluminum front skidplate for the IFS.

New member with a big delima any input would be great.

Teach her to like driving stick. A fun sports car usually solves this problem....especially rear wheel drive ones. Idea two: sell whatever she drives and buy her something with a manual, see idea one above.

Ho ho ho, Santa came early (AR15 upgrades)

You can loop the sling through the long slots. They are designed to take 1" webbing for the most part. For a dedicated 2-pt 'modern' style sling I like the vertical slot on the butt-stock, however, your generally going to want a side mounted sling loop on the forearm ( 9 o-clock ) in the...

    The J8 thread....

I was driving my dodge....though I love it.....thinking about having a J8. Its basically about the same thing, but 3/4 scale. It fits the almost perfect requirements that I want ( the J8 ), a full size truck like my Dodge is just a bit to wide and long. The J8 could still do most things my Dodge...

Dodge to (finally) offer diesel in 1500 series trucks ?

I would give serious thought to swapping in a 4BT cummins instead of the 6BT. You can get PLENTY of power out of them, they are lighter, shorter front to back, and seem to get 20+ easily. Some people report mileage in the low 30s. I would love to do a 73-79 F150 shortbed 4x4 with a 4bt. Keep...

    The J8 thread....

Good to know. Sounds like the mileage is more aerodynamically driven than weight driven. Mileage goes down as speed goes up, rack-loss gained milege, etc.

Don't do the add-a-leaf. That is basically what the previous owner did to mine. YUCK! I really need to ditch mine for some Alcans. Right now I am on a tire search....my big balloons are getting a little worn down. I do enjoy being able to jump in the truck any time any day and drive it 1000...

    The J8 thread....

Is that with the camper and extra weight? If so...thats not bad at all. The speed definitely costs you mileage, especially with a diesel. Most expedition driving is done at 45mph or less....once you get off the main tracks.

    Winch for 1989 Dodge W250

I wouldn't hesitate putting a 10000lb winch on my Dodge. It is under 8000lbs fully loaded. Even with the 39s, topper, diesel, etc....its 6800lbs. Generally, recovery isn't a race. Honestly some of the new fast winches are almost dangerous for the novice. You can always double line to get more...

Super hardcore offroad- considering ditching the tacoma for a vw wagon

My good friend just bought a 2010 Jetta sport wagon. It gets HIGH 40s for mileage with 4 people + gear, with 2 people at 60mph it will get 50+mpg. I wonder if anyone makes a nice light aluminum belly pan? I have seen them take some MAJOR abuse on suby's I do NOT like the fact that the new...

    Odd rover QOTD....

Question of the day. I know its an odd one, but does anyone have a diagram/blueprint of the shape/size of a D90 windshield? Thanks.

    The Bigger Red Pig

For the least amount of work and most gain...just do the 315/75r16's. I ran those on my Dodge when I first got it ( with 3.54s ). Mine did just fine. I got my best mileage with that setup....24.5 at 63mph. Your running 4.10s aren't you....can't remember? The 315s are also really easy to fit...

    Electric motor assist

There are some good info/links if you just google 'pto powered trailer' This is the one I remembered. http://www.4wdonline.com/Mil/LandRover/FC101/powered.trailer.html I think there was a Sahara expedition with powered trailers also.

The H1 wheels ( 12-bolt version ) would really cool. You can get the pressed centers for those for about $45 each now. I think that would be the way to go. 3.5" backspacing would be about right. Most of those centers are designed to bottom out at the measurement. You might even be able to...

2011 Jeeps get new diesels -- in Europe

I can't imagine its any cheaper to certify an engine to Euro standards? Their market share there is also pretty small. The diesel Liberty sold 10000 units its first year in the USA if I remember right. They JUST redid the 2011 2.8L diesel, I can't see them keeping it less than 3-5 years...

2011 Jeeps get new diesels -- in Europe

As far as Europe goes, I think the Euro V meets or exceeds the 2010 Diesel emissions standards in the USA. Anyone want to confirm?

2011 Jeeps get new diesels -- in Europe

Aren't all jeep Wranglers ( sans the J8 ) built in north America and then shipped over to Europe anyways? Diesel's and all?
