A POP UP YOU'VE NEVER SEEN- The FERNWEH MOBIL

Webasto heater install Here is an update on the Webasto heater install. It is an Airtop2000 Benzine model. The diesel models are more common, but there isn't an appreciable fuel economy to the diesel model, that I can tell, so I went with the benzine model so I can use the heater fuel for my...

    Flat bed pop-up or not?

Cruiser, as you are in NL, I highly recommend you check out the Fernweh-mobile. Having paid close attention to detail of the many camper offerings currently available, before and after my purchase, I still find the Fernweh to be the best combination of design, reliability, simplicity and...

Lets see some full size pictures...

Has anyone ever seen the inside of Chili's camper?... I've seen his posts of beer, babes and big trucks, but never inside his camper. Hmmm

A POP UP YOU'VE NEVER SEEN- The FERNWEH MOBIL

The grey upholstry makes the interior cozy, sound damped and adds a bit of insulation. Not to mention velcro sticks well to it, so it's easy to hang small things... We've got a bug screen so insects haven't been a problem for us. Crappy pics but you get the idea.

Ford Expedition as an "Expedition" Vehicle?

I'm in the same boat with a 2000 F150. Less aftermarket support than most other common vehicles. But I'm not going mod crazy, so the only thing I've wanted and is just not available is a snorkel. Even that is only marginally needed. So far haven't had the least bit of regret over my choice to...

A POP UP YOU'VE NEVER SEEN- The FERNWEH MOBIL

Trip highlights Recently did a 2 week roundabout through France, Spain and Portugal. Our goal was to drive no more than 4-6 hours every day to give ourselves margin for navigational error and still afford a relaxed camp set up at the end of each day. Here are a few picture highlights... First...

    F150 Flatbed Overlander Build

UTE fuel filler Here's a pic of the fuel filler arrangement with the UTE bed. Aesthetically not the best but it works well and was simple. One of these days I'll get around to prettying it up. Also, I decided to mount the winch on the bumper. I've read on Expo, my original idea of the Reese...

Abenteuer & Allrad (Adventure Wheel) Overland Show 2015, Germany 04-07 June 2015

For folks in our situation - Tirerack.com is almost always the best bet. I don't remember for sure,, but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't tire vendors at Abenteur & Allrad.

Abenteuer & Allrad (Adventure Wheel) Overland Show 2015, Germany 04-07 June 2015

Jerome, Germany is very dog friendly. Unless you see something contrary on their website, you can expect no restrictions on bringing your dogs. Of course the Germans are assuming that your dogs will be very well behaved, as are theirs. You may see some show specials, but that kind of thing is...

    Into the final countdown now...

Hopeless, we've found the same thing regarding how to work out little details. I guess it just takes time and use to come up with ideas that bring it all together. We too had the issue of how to organize our clothes within the alloted storage space. We came up with the idea to use inexpensive...

    F150 Flatbed Overlander Build

The Duratracs have proven to perform very well in all conditions. Mud, snow, rain and dry. I'm quite sure there are other tires that perform better in one or two of those categories, but for overall performance, I'd definately buy them again.

AXLE GEAR SWAP - real numbers In case anyone is interested in the effects of changing the axle gears in your truck, here are some facts from my experience: I like the 4.6 engine in my truck because of it's reliability and now, post gear change, reasonable mpgs for this type of vehicle. And...

Top five priorities in your vehicle

Great thread, so many ideas... 1) Sustainable - whoever first mentioned that, gave the best description of what we need/want. Not just reliable, but also easy to get parts and easy to fix. This can largely be impacted by the design i.e.: the arched floor of our cabover is stronger than some...

1998 Ford F150 "Training Wheels" Build

Yeah, another F150. I would second SDDiver's recommendation for the Blue Sea fuse box. There are other cheaper ones, but the Blue Sea is worth it for the simplicity and robust design. I would also recommend you consider the spare battery to be an AGM battery. My camper battery is a Optima...

Wally III – A.K.A. The Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ78 Camper

Nice truck! I see a bunch of them here in Europe and planned to get one myself, for an overlanding truck. Toyota's offroad capability combined with reeliability and chassis configuration make them the best vehicle for overland travel. Sadly, we found they just didn't make a vehicle big enough...

    F150 Flatbed Overlander Build

A little winter tinkering. Well, I got the last few things set up on the back-seat storage rack: a couple small shovels and a molle board and bags. Now to just fine tune a proper place for everything... And every good camper needs a good spice rack, right? Gotta make sure the camp chef has...

    Flatbed with slides??

Flatbed / standard slide-in / storage boxes There are ups and downs to every setup. Regarding the standard slide in combined with storage boxes on a flatbed, here is ours. It all works well together. I realize you 'hard-side' guys aren't so concerned about size, but our goal was to have as...
