Replacing cam cover seals on gen 3 monty

Its the 3.5. He may have showed the pic for the 3.8 as it showed one on each side. What is on the driver side to seal it then? It is definately a different cam cover.

    Recommend a Vortec overhaul kit?

And for whatever its worth. I rebuilt a pre-vortec '92 5.7 with blown head gaskets using a similar summit kit many years ago broke ass shadetree style. In other words jstraightedging the heads cleaning it up and slapping it back together. It lasted me another 40k before I sold it to a buddy as...

    Recommend a Vortec overhaul kit?

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-rrkit1-000/ Ive rebuilt several 5.7s with the basic summit kit. But you really need to mic your journals and make sure theres no oversized bearings or at least check for damage. If the engines never been opened and theres no damage the above should be...

Replacing cam cover seals on gen 3 monty

Well I tackled part of this yesterday. According to the dealer both sides have orings but Im not sure he was right. The pass side was a diamond shaped flat plate with a cylinder going into the engine on which the o ring sits. The driver side is a smaller plate but the cylinder shape sticks out...

Replacing cam cover seals on gen 3 monty

I think were talking about different seals. These are the o-rings on the cam thrust cap on the back of the heads against the firewall. I know they will be difficult to reach but Ive seen posts where people have done this in just a couple hours.

Replacing cam cover seals on gen 3 monty

Well the montys dripping out the cam seals right onto the exhaust and I need to get them changed. Took it to the mechanic since I have limited time right now but he wants $500 for four freaking bolts so Im going to do it myself. I know its a pain getting to them but Im sure someone here has done...

    Last 2500 Suburban

You could check the hubs but the easiest way to check is just by looking under the back. The pumpkin shape is different between the two axles. I agree I see no need for it on the suburban unless it was used because of the big block. As for the truck I was told there were two 3/4 ton gmt400...

    Last 2500 Suburban

Youd think but like I said my 2001 2500 8.1 Suburban has the 14 bolt FF. It has the very distinctive bolt pattern where the bottom three bolts are in a triangular pattern instead of 3 almost straight across. For that matter my 1999 k2500 ccsb also has the 14bolt full float.

    Last 2500 Suburban

Thats one thing Id like to know how they determine which gets the sf and which gets the ff. My 01 has a ff but my buddies 04 2500 burb has a sf. His is a 6.0 so maybe that has something to do with it. Not really sure in this case if it really matters. I could see on a dually carrying a gooseneck...

    Last 2500 Suburban

Good to know but I know they still use a different brake system. In fact the way the rotors mount the hubs is completey different. And the 2500 is still about 3/4" smaller diameter and 1/4" thicker.

    Last 2500 Suburban

That I cant answer everything I have found suggests that the suburban 2500 stayed the same up through 2013-14 when it was "discontinued" and didnt have the changes the trucks did. Again I dont know that for sure. I think we have a 12 or 13 at work I will check the bolt pattern if we do. I...

    Last 2500 Suburban

No. This is a 2500 they use very different brakes systems than the gmt900 1500s. Drei which keys did you get for the 2500? Did you check your rear door handles? They may hook everything back up when the sell them.

2004 Tahoe (Suspension Advice) OR buy another Vehicle

Go with a 3" coil spring and torsion key kit and a set of 33" tiress. Should give you all the clearance you need for the terrain you mentioned above. Plus it will be as much as your trailer if not more. Or you could do a little fender rolling and trimming and throw on some 35"s. I dont know...

    Last 2500 Suburban

The gmt900s are PPVs (police patrol vehicles)from GM so theyre a little beefier than a standard hoe. I believe they have heavier suspension bits and shocks, different tuning, and i dont think the ppvs have the afm. I dont know exactly what all the differences are just what Ive been told. They...

    Last 2500 Suburban

No doubt! Gives "run to the border" a whole new meaning. Drei. One good thing about your ride is it still has the front airdam. So it probably wasnt used as a normal patrol vehicle. It may have been an FTO ride or as mentioned above for command staff to take VIPs for border tours or some other...
