79 Series III Lightweight -- what's it worth?

your in the ballpark, but it sounds like what you want is a lwb diesel. If you have a little more in your budget than those postings, I would look at getting a 110 from Blanchards There is a guy on gunsandrovers that has one, and the picts are impressive. I heard he was pretty happy with it...

    84 d-90 problem?

While you have the old assembly out, double check the grounds. On the 90 they go down to the rear crossmember and have a crappy connection. I would probably remove the ground, clean the metal, and reattach with a bolt and nut. It is 15 min that will save you much heartache later. I did say...

Land Rover Discovery 1 or 2, or Range Rover Classic 1 or 2

You can do either. There are many private companies that issue extended warranties for vehicles. Just do you homework (consumer reports, angie's list etc..) They are not all created equal. Check and make sure that the ones you are looking at don't exclude failure prone spots on a D2. (not a...

    new project ideas

While I agree that 100" is pretty short, one of the things I would include would be the ability to sleep inside. That may be a stretch depending on rear overhang/departure angles, but I would really want to be able to sleep inside. Pop-top for venting and air flow. which seats/interior bits...

    Rare Range Rover?

too high of a pressure? Are the hoses hard to squeeze or is it blowing out the tank with the cap? since its a rebuild did you or mark put in a new thermostat? I would also get a new radiator cap since the old block was done, it probably had some issues before. Is your radiator solid? does...

    Garage Sale v2.0

Yea, spent a few days in a yurt ski touring with friends last year, and it was the only product anyone had that I was jealous of. :) Wouldn't mind skiing as well as them either ... Mike

Land Rover Discovery 1 or 2, or Range Rover Classic 1 or 2

Pixel, The best thing you could do for yourself is buy the extended warranty. I wouldn't own one of the newer models w/o it, and I do 90% of my own work. (I came from the series side of Rovers so my expectations on creature comforts aren't that high. :) ) I am not a new car owner by...

The Rolling Restoration & Customization Of My 88' Range Rover Classic

Sounds like you have it in hand. Keep it up. Very interested in how you decided to make the rear storage, and back seat wheel well compartments. Keep the picts coming. :) I always start off with great pictures for the first 4 uninteresting steps, then its nothing till the end. oh well...

Discovery 2 ball joint removal with a Harbor Freight ball joint press??

X2 When you hit the circle, it deflects ever so slightly and then its loose. normally less than 5 "taps" (depending on the size of the hammer :) ) Mike and Myles

The Rolling Restoration & Customization Of My 88' Range Rover Classic

Its amazing how much of a deterant not having easy/quick access can be. I have spent the last couple of weekends reorganizing the garage because of this. Every trip I take the rangie on there is a list before I go. Normally about the length of my arm. D-Day approaches, and I get the need...

    Soundproofing my D1

I was doing some research myself as I need to do this in the classic, and I found that some people had issues with Peel&Seal in high temp areas (SW) I also found Quiet Crap by CruiserCrap (no affiliation) Which is priced better and seems similar to dynamat. I really think it has to do with...

The Rolling Restoration & Customization Of My 88' Range Rover Classic

I have a set of early brackets (both sides with flip and tuble) that I have been working on modifing for my seats. Not sure its the best option, and to be honest, I hate the Disco seats. horrible to sit in for long highway stretches, not great off-road, but I typically don't notice as much...

The Rolling Restoration & Customization Of My 88' Range Rover Classic

Sorry it took so long. So here are some (cell phone) pictures of the modified Discovery manual seat bases. It was easier because the manual seat base in a Discovery is a couple of bent tubes attached to a flat base. Where the tubes attach to the base there is a c shaped bracket that the tubes...

The Rolling Restoration & Customization Of My 88' Range Rover Classic

Jon, That is a tremendous amount or work. WOW good on ya. I will be out in the garage this weekend, and will snag a picture of the seat mount lowered from a Disco manual seat. Cheers, Mike and Myles

That is looking great! Glad you are making progress, even if slowly. I have manual disco seats. lowering those was much easier. more progress picts. :) Mike and Myles

    Wish I had pics!

Really!?! Wow, I don't have teenagers, so I had to look it up. Really? this is pretty sad. but yet someone made it sadder. Following the "really tragic" demise of of Acton Beale, 20, Australian prime minister Julia Gillard attempted to call an end to the latest Facebook craze Down Under...

If you were to pick up a Series III 88"...

Well i feel like some of the pictures I have seen of 100% toyota running gear in swb series have the sticks way back, and short rear driveshafts. What about just having an adapter and output shaft made to mate the 22R(E) to the Series transmission? I am not kidding when I say that you can...

If you were to pick up a Series III 88"...

LR Diesel I would look at the 2.5 LR diesel. It cheaper than a 200 or 300 TDI and with an OD will push a series rover to 70 -75. no adapters needed, and for a 12 mile commuter, it would do great. Loads easier than trying to shove all that other stuff under the bonnet. Really for 12 miles...
