    Rear bumpstops measurement

If you've measured the up and down travel and feel a lower profile bump stop will work without bottoming the shocks then go for it. You're probably fine but only you can really say this for sure. If you're using 10" travel shocks you might also make sure the down travel is safe. You may need...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

As of today US$1 = AUS$1.47, so a that $179,000 truck would still be a $121,000 in the USA. But it's not a straight comparison because of the refitting. Bringing non-25 year exempt vehicle here and fitting for EPA and DOT would I assume be equally expensive. Aren't registration and taxes...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

They also have kerbs, which I presume are easier for pedestrians to negotiate walking their dingos around parked trucks.

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

You're comparing apples to squirrels. The global Ranger GVW is generally similar to a competitive Hilux. For example, an Australian 4x4 Double Cab SR5 Hilux has a GVW rating of 2,930 kg with a curb weight of 1,930 kg. An Aussie spec XLT Double Ranger carries a 3,200 kg GVW with a stated curb...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

And the 2nd gen RA60 6-speed is not one of Toyota's best. The current RC62 is better and the 5-speeds R155 and R156 behind 4 cylinders were much better. The RC60 isn't a bad transmission so much as it's just not good. Gearing is great for a Camaro, the longevity is suspect. The release...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

I'm a dyed in the wool stick shift person but know enough about autos that they all have enough ability to lock them into at least a couple of gears. Like preventing overdrive for towing, maybe starting in 2nd, locking in 1st for off highway. Otherwise I don't completely understand why having...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Not necessarily. The track width of the Tacoma is wider than the Hilux, so the axles are similar in the same way as they were in the T100 and now Tundras. The Hilux is 1,535/1,550mm FR/RR (60.4"/61") and the Tacoma 63.0"/63.2". All of Toyota's axles are similar in construction but there's...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Everyone is using models indiscriminately here. The overseas Hilux has a fully boxed frame like the Ranger does globally and here now (is that better or not, that's the question). The Hilux does not equal Tacoma. That's the point of this thread. The Ranger that Ford brought here does maybe...

Battery issue or CTEK charger issue?

AGM batteries can tolerate the approach that those older type chargers do but it has to be done respecting the manufacturer's suggestion for just how hard you hit them and the temperature has to be watched. If you overheat and start to vent you can't fix it by rehydrating the electrolyte like...

Battery issue or CTEK charger issue?

I used to have a Minn Kota charger that did this. It is a good charger but the logic was bulk-absorb-float then wait and test. After 24 hours at float it would turn off and look for the next discharge cycle. It was intended to be left connected to the battery all the time on board a boat and...

Battery issue or CTEK charger issue?

How quickly after taking the battery off the Diehard did you connect it to the CTEK? I doubt you have 3 bad batteries. I don't think the CTEK is faulty necessarily. You put it on a fully (or substantially) charged battery and it doesn't know what to do since nothing needs to be done...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Well since the Hilux hasn't had a solid front axle since 1998 I guess even the Hilux isn't the Hilux we've been wanting either? Hilux does get standard shift but even global trucks seem to be moving to automatics and in the U.S. you have to get a TRD Sport to get a stick, no longer available on...

Octagonal (Bike?) Box Mounted on Bumper?

There's been a few enclosed trailer hitch bike boxes over the years. Not sure if that's what you mean. Is it possible they just mounted or were carrying a plain hard sided bike shipping box on back?

Getting solar power into my truck

Yup, see post 37. I was thinking of it backwards physically. Joule's Law states power is proportional to current square times resistance, but the rate of electron flow is uniform around the whole series circuit so it's not strictly lost like the electrical energy converted to heat was.

    Batwing Awning Pros & Cons?

I think I'd agree with @krick3tt here, the side you drive on probably has less of an influence than which side your RTT swings or your layout of doors, fridge, drawers, etc. I would think the side of the road we drive on might influence rear bumper swing outs, though. If you exit on the left...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

"Somewhat" is a subjective qualifier, but I'd personally call the difference "significant" for payload. The standard XLT 4x4 4 door Ranger carries a 1,560 lbs payload and 7,500 lbs towing rating and a 4x4 SR5 Tacoma double cab has payload rating of 1,175 lbs and 6,400 lbs towing.

Getting solar power into my truck

Explicit expression of the I-V curve for the diode in the PV would be done with the small signal AC model, as would be the battery, when subjected to PWM, which would be required to stay in regulation. None of this is a static large signal DC analysis. That's the fundamental point here. It's...

Getting solar power into my truck

True. The energy is conserved and some is converted. Perhaps "lost" in the conventional electrical sense. Potential remains constant across the I^2 x r loss. So I guess it would look like a voltage loss (drop) then. But the current did the work. Is this a hypothetical "Where is your...
