is this the same truck that was at the FJ summit? I also really wish Toyota would offer the CM with a 6.5' bed. At least they have a 38 gallon tank now. Maybe some day.
I would check the following: valve covers and gaskets, oil pan and gasket, leftover oil residue from oil changes?, differential seals and t-case seals, over greased u-joints slinging grease onto the exhaust.
Idler pulley bearings or AC compressor clutch bearings. Sadly, I'm going to guess the AC bearings. That's where I'm at with my 2008 4runner. Replaced all the idler pulleys and still have the whine. Closer inspection pin points the sound to the AC compressor. Some day I know it will...
Nice build! I run Icons on my 5th gen and I love them! I've been thinking of upgrading my 4th gen with Icons as well but I'm not sure if I want to go long travel rear or just keep the travel about the same. Do you notice more travel in the rear with your setup?
Awesome pics and videos! I was there for the summit but we didn't do Black Bear or Poughkeepsie. They are definitely on my list for next time. Love the colors on that FJ.
I'm with underdrive on this one, that front shaft shouldn't be spinning enough to do that much damage. You could also just jack the front of the truck up until the wheels are off the ground and then try to turn the front shaft by hand. I would try it both running and with the engine off. In 2wd...
Two things I highly suggest upgrading are, 1. Tires. Even a decent set of stock size AT tires is a big upgrade from the factory tires. This alone will help you go more places than you probably thought imaginable. 2. Self recovery equipment (I probably shouldn't lump this into one item). For the...
Should be perfectly fine. If anything, the center of the tire may wear a little faster but I doubt it, as long as you run the proper inflation. If you think about it, the bead of the tire will only be squeezed in 1/4" more on each side.
I'm Not sure how much it would affect acceleration, mpg, ride but I also like that size. A member on t4r.org just installed them on his 2014. It really looks good. In fact, I'm thinking of going to that size on both of my 4runners in the near future. I also know of at least a few members on the...
An option to running 315's or 35/12.50's is to use a 285/75/17. Although not a real common size, Toyo produces these in both AT's and MT's. I can tell you from first hand experience, these are just as tall as 315's without the extra width. They are heavy though.
How do you like the 887/Bilstein combo so far? Looking for something a little stiffer than my FJ springs on my 4runner. Trying to plan for a bumper and winch down to the road.
Were you there for the FJ Summit? I remember seeing a 4runner just like that. I was in my black 4th gen 4runner. I'm planning on running Black Bear and Poughkeepsie next year hopefully. We ran Engineer, Cinnamon, Imogene, Ophir, California, and Corkscrew this year. My 4runner did pretty good...
