What is "needed" for an Overland Vehicle

What is needed? Something with a motor and the spirit of adventure. I think traveling through Asia in a Rickshaw would be awesome. http://www.theadventurists.com/rickshaw-run/ Certain conditions require more elaborate modifications, training and equipment, but that is extremely rare (for...

Overland Journal: 1995 Range Rover Classic

Thinking a little more about the XPS. Funky, in a good way.

    So...why can't I build a GX460?

The 460 is a sweet ride. Do it!

Overland Journal: 1995 Range Rover Classic

I particularly love that photo, and many others like it. They should remind all of us that the vehicle can be (and should be) quite simple, and that only few modifications are required for serious exploration. My own trip across the Andes in a near-stock 300tdi Defender.

Great idea! Some more inspiration, a 3-door in Morocco, during the launch of the new RR a few years ago.

2005 G500 build by MG Metalworks

Sweet truck. Have always loved that silver color too. Fortunately, the G-Wagen requires minimal modification for serious exploration.

Yeah, Stu, the LTX is the closest I can find so far. Would love the find this set of 7.5s! Thanks to everyone else for the tire and modification suggestions. I have the Disco, G, and Brute for more serious trails. This Range Rover is just going to be a simple, restored Sunday driver. I want it...

Original Michelins too. Talk about finding Nirvana. That is my current challenge, finding the right tire. I am sold on the 215/85, but even the new Michelins look off.

Nice stuff Karl. Something about a group of G-Wagens that looks the part!

We need a rooftop tent forum category.

I know Brian is working on it. There were far more RTT threads then expected, so we need to catalog and then migrate everything at once. Takes a little time

    iPad Air 2 announced

Stephanie has a Galaxy tab. It is ok, but entirely awkward to use and navigate. Battery life is also pretty poor. I do like the concept of the Surface. If it had GPS, I would probably just buy one to try it out.

Here is my 1977 FJ40 (now sold) I drove it for five years while my wife finished her business degree. Never failed me and I sold it for more than I paid for it. Did a few modifications, like a LockRight in the rear and an 8,000# Warn on a Man-A-Fre bumper. Also installed a CCOT air conditioning...
