Gunsite 250: My 5-Day Pistol Course Experience

I spent the last few weeks loading up on gear and facing a few decisions. The biggest decision was which sidearm to train with during the course. My primary sidearm has always been an HK USP .45, a pistol I have owned since 1998 and put thousands of rounds through. I qualified for my CCW with it...

Gunsite 250: My 5-Day Pistol Course Experience

Having been traveling for most of the last three years, I am glad to be home for a while and have shifted my extra time towards training, alternating efforts to improve my skills as a motorcyclist with my personal interests in firearms. This week, I am checking a big "bucket list" box with the...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

I purchased this one from Rovers North. It was the last one they had in stock. Not sure if they sourced more or not. Best of luck!

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

That was a pretty good GPS at the time. I have since upgraded to a HEMA Navigator with Ozi Explorer and USGS Topos. Will post a picture soon. The stock suspension bits arrived, so we are planning to swap everything out in a few weeks. I suspect a much better ride and increased articulation as...

    Doc's 05 Tacoma Build Thread

Truck is looking good Dave. That drawer system is pretty incredible. At this point, your most difficult challenge will be when to stop modifying. ;) Any trips planned for the desert season? That truck is begging for a little Belizean mud!

Test rides complete. Went with the Multistrada.

Great updates, and a beautiful bike. I have spent quite a bit of time on the Multi, and it rips, even on moderate dirt.

2.7l too small for expo truck?

Absolutely. Keep the truck light and the tire size modest. How many of us have traveled with a 22R with no issues? Go for it!

AEV Brute Expedition Build in Dubai

Are you guys in Oman? Just curious, as I have an Empty Quarter project brewing, and would like to connect with a few folks in-country.

Prepping a defender 130 for around the world..

Fantastic! Looks like a Husky 10 up front already. Looks like all it needs is that rediculous tread plate off the hood and fenders and the hood replaced with a spare tire mount compatible. Do you have other images of the utility body? They can be useful, but are often so heavy to begin with...

For lashing, I am using factory Discovery II rings, installed with the mounting point under the rear rub rail and then in two more locations at the wheel well, near the rear seats. The tie down loop's mounting base will tuck under the carpet and rub rail, exposing only the ring. There are other...

I would not classify it as a full blown load barrier, but it would certainly withstand most loads in an accident or rollover. I would view it as a safety barrier to coincide with proper lashing.

On to the dog guard. Always wanted one, primarily for my ginormous furry child. Otherwise, they are good to have for loading and lashing considerations, keeping the heavy stuff aft of the guard should the lashing fail (lashing is my next project). First step was to pop a few trim...

Overland Journal: 1995 Range Rover Classic

Yeah, these Land Rovers are an interesting challenge. They need to be driven weekly, but preferably not daily, and if you push a hard and fast predictive and preventative maintenance schedule on them, they can be quite reliable. We took a half-dozen Land Rovers across the Altar Dunes and the...

Overland Journal: 1995 Range Rover Classic

Our Land Cruiser LJ78 is similar mileage (more actually), and is flawless. Nearly every system in the early Land Rovers have a fatal flaw (their new vehicles excepted). This RRC has only 85,000 miles and has tons of little issues, everything from check engine lights to windows that don't work to...

I found a new in box ladder from Rovers Norths. Christmas in October! Actually, I have had the ladder for a while, and it was just resting on the rear door. The install isn't difficult, but you do need a metric rivet nut tool. Good excuse to buy one. Working on my trucks is one of the hobbies I...

Overland Journal: 1995 Range Rover Classic

Almost all of the early Land Rover parts are second rate. ;) But when everything is working, they are magic. If this was a Land Cruiser with the same miles, nothing would be needed. I have a list of over 50 items that need work. Yes, it is a sickness ;P
