01-04 Tacoma Double Cab Roof Rack???

Pretty sure there are several threads on customtacos.com that discuss installation and have full parts lists including numbers. Definitely an uncommon option. Saw one last week in Atlanta -- the first in a year or more. I have Thule crossbars on my 2001 DC, and they do fine for me. Not sure...

    Rustoleum Hammered Spray Paint

I've used POR-15 for years, and for what it is, it's terrific. Lots of options regarding size, and a number of related products are now available as their product line has been extended. (Some of the info above must be a little dated). Check out their website for details.

    Nikon P&S lens error?

I've had it happen to two Nikons (with light service) and one Canon (a workhorse). So kinda common from my perspective. Olympus, Leica, Kodak just fine. Very risky to draw conclusions from tiny data sets, of course, but transport mechanisms in microelectronics are often a weak point it seems...

Cargos for a tall slim guy 36" inseam

I'm six foot six also with a 36 inch inseam, and I've had the best luck in recent years at Eddie Bauer. I love REI, but they're awful for long legs. I have three pairs of Mountain Khaki twills (not their cargoes) that are also a true 36 inseam.

    Australian Window Visors?

When air conditioning was much less common on cars and aerodynamics were less important, these kinds of products were a lot more popular. With flush-mounted glazing and thermostatic cabin temp control, one doesn't see them as often. They're still out there, though, such as here.

This is my favorite thread in a long time! What a cool trip, and what a great report. Many thanks. Don

Tent Trailer craigslist find (Indianapolis Area) $400

That looks to be an Apache Eagle. Our family had a '69 that we camped all over the US in for many years. Lightweight and efficient. My Dad sold ours in the mid 80's for about the approx $600 we paid for it in 1970, and I still miss it. This would be a great platform to upgrade. It has a puny...

    Bike Advise Needec

A "starter" bike probably won't be one you keep for years. Maybe you mean an "entry" level bike? At the lower end -- around $350 -- you'll be able to get a perfectly decent bike from any one of a number of makers. There really isn't a whole lot of difference between any of them. Choose the...

Is '88 a good year for Cherokees?

Yes, the 4.0 L is always a straight six, but is not always the HO version. My 300 000 mile 88 isn't -- the HO was an early 90s option, as TerryD notes. The 4.2 L in your old CJ5 was not the same engine as the XJ's.

Is '88 a good year for Cherokees?

x2 on running away from the 2.8 L V6. The 4.0 L straight six in original or HO form is just fine.

Is '88 a good year for Cherokees?

I've had an 88 XJ for about 20 years. I like the seats from that year -- especially on the Limited models with separate headrests. I like the lack of an under-dash knee bolster and the lower dash profile from this era -- defintely more comfortable for this six-foot-six driver. The Renix...

    2008 Tacoma D-4D swap *pics*

My 2001 Tacoma DC is a super little truck. I hunted for a year to find one in perfect condition with 60kmi on it 'cause I like the smaller form. I've always been impressed with smaller diesel engines, too. I've put many thousands of km (on road) in them. Yes, a 1KD-FTV change would be...

    80 cargo barriers?

While it's not floor to ceiling. the Mont Blanc barrier I have in my Lexus RX350 does a great job as a dog barrier. It's a three piece metal screen, with a main center panel and two adjustable wings. The best part of the design is that it mounts to the rear seat headrests with a tension hook...

    Smittybuilt Element Ramps

That might be a very good way to look at it -- a cast iron (brittle) or spring steel (tough) comparison. I like that way of thinking about it. And yes, expensive doesn't equal good and cheap doesn't equal bad. But I have found it hard to find Australian-made products that aren't well made...

    Smittybuilt Element Ramps

Stiffness does not automatically mean brittle. Flexibilty does not automatically mean strength. The toothpick and rubber band analogies are inappropriate. Looking forward to some first-hand, in-use testing.

Ripped off Portal photo in use on eBay?

A friend of mine had immages ripped off from his website and used fraudulently on eBay. The idiots didn't just steal his images, they did it by using a link to his site. He updated the file on his site to show in big letters something like I AM A THIEF! Really funny when that showed up as the...

    Smittybuilt Element Ramps

Note that at two places on the Maxtrax website (here and here) they describe the weight of a single track differently. 3.4 kg in one place and 3.8 kg in another. Not clear which is first and second generation, although other descriptions indicate the new version is lighter. The geometric...
