You need to be able to open it more than 2" - 3"! With a can in the holder you can't remove the strap at all. To get the can out, you have to open it to about a 45* or 50* angle. With no can in the holder, the strap will come right off.

If it's on the up-and-up, i'd buy it. I would have it checked out my a reputable mechanic - one that's familiar with Cruisers, if possible. Make sure all the electronics work (windows / locks / etc). FJ62s are notorious for electrical gremlins, that are hard to fix due to limited parts...
