I agree with above sentiment. I spend 1 out of 3 of my shifts on an ambulance. Avoid a unit from an urban environment as they get abused on a daily basis, mechanically speaking.
I did at one time work for a rural agency that had F-450 4x4 medic units and I always thought they would make a...
I have D rated BFG tires on my SMB, and it weighs in around 10k lbs. I should have gone with E rated tires on it for a bit more safety margin though. I'm eyeballing Toyo Open Country MT's. Anyone want to buy some nice BFG AT 315's?:sombrero:
I have had one in my Xterra for a few years now. It is very well made and works great to store soft bulky stuff and does not hamper rear view. On the rare occasions when I had rear seat passengers I took it down because it would touch the top of their head though.
The net can also double as a...
Nice photos!
This pic was from mid November, same spot as your photo. To me the narrow shelf above this spot seemed a bit more narrow to me.I had my wife get out to spot me. Either way the road wasn't too bad IMO. We went down fully loaded with 2 weeks worth of food, beverage, etc. We were well...
Check out www.sportsmobileforum.com as well as www.thedieselstop.com
The Powerstroke engines 7.3, 6.0,and 6.4 are made by Navistar.
Honestly an older Ford van with the 7.3 is the best bet. They are workhorses and are much less finicky than the 6.0L.
The 6.0L has a bad reputation but most of...
Our 6.0l ambulances have had endless EGR valve problems. That is due mostly to the extended idle times they get. They must be kept at high idle if they are going to sit for any length of time. Low idle = poor combustion = carbon buildup and EGR valve failure.
I don't idle my van at low idle for...
There is a wealth of information at www.sportsmobileforum.com regarding the E series as most of the SMB conversions are Ford.
My 04' extended body E-350 6.0l diesel SMB gets about 15mpg average. I have 4:10's gears and 315" tires.
As stated above! I have done this as well. Once you have the right combination of extensions and universal joint it's pretty easy. If you can't find it on XOC, post up there and someone will direct you to it. I don't go to that site anymore because the format has changed and it sucks IMHO.
It was his only shot at beating the cancer. It was a 50/50 chance and in the end it at least gave him 5 more good months. He deteriorated rapidly in one afternoon. It had spread to his lungs.
Hey good looking X!
I am running BFG 32x11.50's. For some reason they look big in the photo.
I am running a 3" AC lift (maybe a bit more than 3"), low profile bump stops, Calmini steering system, rancho 9000's, and a custom rear spring pack. It is cranked a bit but other than the P.O.S. Calmini...
Well you did ask for feedback.
Spurious has done an incredible transformation of his rig and is very knowledgeable about these vans. I'd trust his opinion.........
