JK Wrangler 3.8l vs 3.6l Pentastar

I just posted this information in another thread, but to repeat: I have a 7,000 pound '07 JKU converted to an EarthRoamer XV-JP with 33s and 5.13 gears. The performance was adequate from the off, but I also got a substantial improvement using a Superchip TrailDash to tune the engine to run on...

To rivet, bond or tape? Exterior panels or interior or both?

Agreed . . . You're pretty much one and done with placement on the VHB tape. But it works pretty slick on the right job. Putting on the adhesion promoter first makes it work even better, in my experience.

    Structural Foam

Sounds like a good plan. BTW! I'm not saying that it'll work right--never tried it--but they make squares of the removable adhesive (think Post-It Note glue) and they might be strong enough to hold Thinsulate in position until the panels go up. It'd only cost a couple of dollars to see if...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

Geez, everybody's acting like the truck is dead and gone forever. It isn't toast; it hasn't even been un-Northwest Editioned. The zebrawood-faced cabinets in the cabin have been removed. If that was the main reason you liked the truck, grieving is warranted. Beyond that, though, the truck either...

    Structural Foam

It's been done on several Sprinter conversions. You can check on the Sprinter Source forum to find examples. i can tell you, though, that I think the general consensus is that it's kinda of a pain with some disadvantages, not the least of which is that it's absolutely permanent. A common...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

B It's hard to be catching crap, well-phrased or not, for taking the best route I could come up with to get my XV-JP back into optimum condition. The motivation for spending still more energy and money on this truck is that it didn't work well enough in either of it prior configurations to meet...

VANdiana Jones sequel: The Legacy Continues

Greetings from scenic Indiana. It's good to see you learning a marketable skill . . . Maybe lift the truck a little more and you could do without wheel wells. That'd give you more room. :sombrero:

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

:sombrero: I'm pretty sure Dion hopes to amortize the building with a wee bit more work after my Jeep. Still, you prompt an interesting idea for those of us who are fiscally accountable to others . . . maybe a dozen or so of us could form a network where we hire the next guy in line to change...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

Thanks for admitting that, my friend. I was loving the photos, but was worried that you'd forgotten you were towing a trailer. ;)

EXPEDITIONPORTAL.COM CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF ADVENTURE!

It's been a while since I thanked you for the cool truck you built me. I loved that truck, and it was a great vehicle to follow during the Portal's early days: Sincere congratulations on the ten years of increasing success, and thanks to all of the long-time moderators and posters for making...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

Looks to be a ways beyond the point where organizing an ExPo barn-raising would help. Looks nice; good luck getting it finished and in service.

AT IT AGAIN: Paul and Mike Convert a Mid/Tall T1N Sprinter Cargo

You are clever, sir, and a master of e-commerce. I believe these are ours. The sizing and features seem right. And if you can get that deal, they would end up about half of what we paid, though ours were installed by a guy who knew what he was doing, and it did seem a little tricky to get all...

    MY DL650 sidecar setup

Thanks for getting us some sidecar action here. I liked seeing your rig. (And any moto at NWOR that wasn't a KTM or a GS gets my admiration. ;) ) If you have the time, please continue to tell us of your modifications and adventures. I promise to read and admire your efforts. Thanks, Mike

2014 JK with Ursa Minor top and lotsa extras

Nice find. True, not a Rubicon, but it has most of the modifications you'd need or want, and I doubt there's very many situations where the difference would be obvious. (No mention of regearing, but given the other mods, it might not be out of the question.) I agree about the pricing...

    Fuso + Airstream: Why not?

Or Haven could have alternately posted the arguably-more-famous Bigfoot trailer/Fuso rig that he placed first on his FG Camper example thread. In the prehistory of overlanding as a mass market thing (circa 2002), a gentleman named Carl Hunter from BC created a this rig by mounting a Bigfoot...

    Fuso + Airstream: Why not?

Should be easy enough if you don't try to connect the cab to the trailer. That would be hard, especially with a tilt cab. Using a front engined chassis with a big back wall would make it easier. http://rvinterest.com/pin/airstream-bambi-on-sprinter-chassis/

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

That'd be a sound idea, both because of Paul's work and because the Euro vans make great overlanding platforms. Make it so. ;) Good question, but given I didn't start new build threads when it went to Upscale, or James, or Paul, it probably doesn't make sense to start over for Dion's work. And...
