Interesting bus to RV conversion:
"Great Mechanics Special Sale - $3000 (Portland)

I just saw some seats on CL that looked too familiar... I think your mounting method looks a bit more sturdier than wood... But this shows the offset/raise needed to work w/ the factory Tahoe bracket.
The path of thinking that led me here was that tool chests are sturdy & metal, so they might make for good, secure onboard storage. But I couldn't find any pros/cons on the issue. I did find this reference to using a Husky tool chest in Kgorman's Vanimal 4x4 Sprinter build.
He said "I’ll be...
^^That looks nice n simple. I'm thinking that's probably the way I'll go to minimize the time-suck of tons of drawers and detailed cabinetry. I'd rather be camping!
Ah, gotcha! I figured there was a good reason, just couldn't find anything on here pro/con. I think if you have that setup in a work van you just expect the noise along with all the other junk rattling around.
Looks like it's plywood boxes with minimal drawers then... Those fabric cubes work...
Yeah, I was thinking the rattling is the biggest issue. I wonder how noisy they'd be from play in the drawers/glides themselves. Say each one had 10lbs of sand in it, instead of 20 metal spoons, would the drawers & boxes still rattle?
Still, finding some used, and putting a square of dynamat or...
I was looking at some used Craftsman tool chests and file drawers this weekend and was wondering if there's a reason why I haven't seen more of them re-purposed into Van & RV builds?
They're made of metal, sturdy, lockable, and have heavy duty hardware. Are they also really noisy going down the...
How’s that Husky tool chest holding up? I’ve been thinking of using a large tool chest as some kind of cabinet/storage in my RV build. Or even some old file cabinets. Some have really nice welded construction and solid drawer glides. I just worry it might rattle too much?
As usual, the US is a bit behind Europe. We’re really just having our whole “van-life” renaissance right now. They figured out long ago that bigger isn’t always better. Heck, we’re still commuting in giant pickups! Give it another decade and there will be a lot more (cheaper) commercial options...
Nice setup. The RTT seems like an easy way to expand a vehicle for a growing family. I keep waiting on prices on used (but rarely used) ones to come on down to earth..!
I've got a Chinook RV that's got a ladder on the back. It's broken, and instead of replacing I think I might just remove it. I pulled the ceiling AC unit, and may put a deck hatch in it's place like Willywalderbeast did here...
