Do you plan to put any weight on top? If not, I would go for lighter material.
I used 1" .120 wall square tubing as cross members on my roof. The span is about 6' and even with expanded metal welded to it, it noticeably sags when standing on it.
My next box/roof will be made of 2" 14ga...
Have you fit your tail lights on the rear yet? I wanted to get boxes like that but the bed brackets were in the way. I am just going to use the mil light brackets and replace with LED lights.
Chain tray ready to be welded.
Chain tray finished and landing gear mounted.
Plenty of extension and probably dont need to swivel it out of the way, just collapse the drop leg.
Welded up some of the easy to reach the holes and ground off excess stuff from frame. Rattle canned with...
Extension looks good. That is some serious prep work. I hate grinding or welding the paint on these trailers. Even if I get down to bare metal, the paint on the other side will still burn/smoke a little bit.
Been awhile since my last update.
I finally realized that a two trailer plan is a better solution for my needs; a dedicated general hauler and a dedicated camping/expo trailer.
The rack/roof/tool boxes are being sold and this trailer will become the dedicated hauler (after a few more changes)...
Not sure how far to extend it yet. Since I plan to use a channel mount, I will start out long (probably around 3'). I can cut off the channel/shorten as needed.
I would not weld the extension off the trailer. They are not perfect and you may end of with a crooked extension. Bolting it all...
19" looks good, but I would also consider the tow vehicle tailgate geometry and plans for gear on the tongue of trailer. Make sure it is long enough to jack knife the trailer and you can open the tailgate with the trailer coupled.
So you are going to weld the 2.5" tube to the bottom of the...
Pulled the shocks off to try 3/4" washers and machine spacers. The washers needed trimming to clear the top of the shock so I ended up using the 3 14ga machine spacers per mount. Its hard to see but there is a slight gap between shock and frame now but more importantly, the bushing is more...
Now I need to decide what to do about the top shock mount. Opinions welcome.
Leave it alone and use it as is.
Add a few washers as spacers (top and bottom) between frame and inner bushing.
Grind the spring
Grind the trailer
After doing some more searching, it does seem like drilling out bushings is a common practice. With that, I decided to stick with the Monroe Load Adjusting line and make the bushing fit the mount. For some reason Monroe does not make a list of the Load Adjusting shocks with specs readily...
Thanks for the ideas. I am new to suspension parts and was just looking to increase the payload a bit without going to air bags. After speaking with Monroe, I had the impression the outer metal eye is smaller for the 5/8 mount so I am not sure if a 3/4 ID bushing will fit or if there is enough...
Can anyone point me to a line of coil over shocks with 3/4" mounts?
Wanted to add a set of these to my 101A3 but they are not offered with 3/4" mounts.
