I copied Marks brake removal on my 101. Your answer depends on the tow vehicle. I pull mine with a 1/2 ton (Tundra) and I notice it but it stops fine when loaded.
I would add electric brakes if it was as easy and bolting them on and running some wires.
Even if my surge brakes worked, I...
Good looking build Brad. I am in Weatherford with a a few toddlers that are fans of military trailers as well. Let me know if you need a hand with some fab work for your rtt support.
My brother in law had the same problem when he pulled his bolts to dump. He eventually got it back together but it sounds like there is a lot of strain relieved when the just the front bolts are removed. Like Mark said, try loosening the bolts on tongue bracket or the leaf spring brackets...
I would not mess with the data plates unless you are doing a restoration and want them for historical purposes. My data plates were not legible so I removed them. Nothing says you can't remove your data plates.
I am in TX also.
Sounds like your answer is in your post. As long as there are no VIN type numbers on the trailer you are gtg.
I did mine as a home build. I could not find any specific description of what constitutes home built.....
Good looking trailer. Sounds like you have a good plan. If you are near DFW and interested in selling the gates and bows let me know.
My 101A3 build. They are fun!

Got a chance to take it out again with a new tarp set up..... still room for improvement. I am now OF thinking making rigid awning covers that will not need poles, stakes, or lines.
I am yet to take it out and not get positive comments about it. Only issues is that people also keep asking me...
Got a chance to take the trailer out a few times. Very happy with it but came up with a few improvements.
Hauling a pretty heavy load of steel and other stuff.
Clean and loaded for its first real expedition
Handled the mud and 85 MPH on the freeway with ease.
Most important gear! I...
Thanks hesterj, I will keep an eye out for you around town.
Added some grommets and rigged the semi-permanent cover. The plan is to leave this tarp on while traveling.
I was not able to locate a reasonably priced set of gates, bows, and tarp so I decided to make my own and use a plain old canvas tarp.
Trip to the steel yard
Making the stakes
This was my first unsupervised welding project.
Some close of ups my better welds.
The complete...
Convinced myself and wife that buying a welder and learning to use it would end up paying for itself…..Ended up bringing this home.
It was a good thing I had not sold the 37” tires yet because I was able to use them to build a platform to help get the welder out of the truck.
All set up...
Without knowing the specifics of your build, but looking at the coupler your purchased, I would probably go for .120 wall for the frame and 14ga tubing for the rest. Maybe some 2.5"x2.5" 3/16 tubing for the the coupler attachment and rear receiver.
2.5x2.5 1/4 wall is 7.11 lb/ft!
On my way...
