Well, we made it into El Salvadore. It was the most hectic border crossing yet. We try to be prepared, but the Guatemalan and Salvadorian sides wanted copies of the stamps they had just put in our passports and other such things we couldn't have had ahead of time. We ended up hiring a "helper"...
thanks fbksurferjoe. I don't think I will ever truly understand electricity, but I have been learning. I used pretty heavy gauge, quality wire for most everything and every circuit has at least one fuse. I tried to keep it as clean and simple as I could. Spoiler alert... I find out later that my...
Thanks for the tip 20DYNAMITE07. I just pulled into a place in El Salvado with wifi (first time in a while) and I think it might even be good enough to watch some YouTube. Lets see what you've been up to Ronny :)
My wife and I started a YouTube channel to document our travels. The first few episodes cover our preparations for our current trip from California to Panama. They aren't dedicated "build" videos, but if you're interested in our truck/camper you may be interested in episodes 4 and 5 of our vlog...
It's totally fine Bajasurfrig. I'm happy to help when I can. If you have any other questions I might have answers to, ask away.
Our budget is 50 usd per day or 1500 per month.
This is for two people and a dog though. I cant think of an accurate way of trying to guess what my budget would be...
Thanks for sharing. I've been searching youtube for some good overlanding content. I'm always looking for inspiration for my own channel. I'm just getting started.
I appreciate the wild life shots and your story telling. Not just offroading or trying to make it look like your getting Xtreme...
Wife and I are full time in our rig and only have an outdoor kitchen. We are using a Camp Chef, Everest. It's a two burner that can put out more heat than most similarly sized units and it still has very good heat control. We cook with a cast iron skillet sometimes. It works well. We also simmer...
Driver's side. The ARB bug net only has a door/zipper on the right side(when facing the awning from the side of the vehicle) so driver side mount equals zipper facing the rear of the vehicle.
Good question. I unfortunately mounted mine on the passenger side before learning this about the bug net.
Gracias Bajasurfrig. I've done lots of baja trips as well. It's a magical place.
If you get a chance to do this trip, go for it. Your rig would be killer for it.
I don't like crowds in the surf so I've chose not to spend much time at any of the big name spots. As a result I haven't scored much...
Thanks Jeepercreeper! I love my Toyota too.
Amie and I have been busy this week with our Spanish school. I feel like I've improved. It will be interesting to see how much of it sticks after we leave. We've also been getting some video editing done. Here's a shot for the surfing overlanders out...
Thanks for sharing guys. I've stumbled across his reviews before, but never any of his trip reports. I just subscribed. Now I have some binge-watching to do:wings:
I'm filming my travels, but new to the process of producing episodes, so always looking for more inspiration.
Thanks for putting in...
Nice looking ride. We are in Guatemala right now and spending the next year making our way to Panama. If you catch up to us, maybe we can go for a surf. Good luck on your business as well.
We are a few days into our Spanish classes at Maya Corazon in San Pedro de Laguna on the west side of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. I think things are going well so far. I've got a lot of work to do, but I already knew that. Ha, Ha. Anyone that has read this thread knows my English is ******** so I am...
I considered a LC, but ended up going with a T100 for my current rig.
I chose to go with a pickup over an SUV because I consider it a more versatile base for a camping build. You could go with a camper shell and a similar setup to what you have in your runner, but with more head room or you...
OK. Update!
We went to Tikal. It was pretty rad. We aren't relly into ruins and after seeing a couple in Mexico, we actually skipped a few that we were considering, but Tikal was definitely beautiful and our favourite part was the large area of protected jungle around the archaeological site...
Yeah, Volcomsurfer the US/Mexican border is surprisingly easy to cross(at least as a US citizen). Hope you had a fun trip. Now that you've done it I'm sure your addicted. I know I can't get enough of Baja.
Thanks for the recommendation luthj. I am a bit behind on my posts. We actually went to...
We made it to Guatemala!
We got our package in Belize City at 10:30am and made it to a campsite across the lake from Isla Flores, Guatemala with daylight to spare.
And we are lucky with our timing. It is the first day of a 6 day festival on Isla Flores. Crazy fireworks, parades, and dancing...
