AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

The cutout in the RTT sits over a lip around the matching cutout in the platform. That should work to seal it.

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

Not sure if I'm understanding the question, but the Autohome is unmodified, so it still seals when folded principally by the top shell overlapping the bottom shell. My experience has shown that setup to be quite watertight.

    few questions on foxwing awning

I am very happy with the Foxwing deployed on the XV-JP Jeep. It is, however, only by the barest of margins that my rear door does not foul on the awning, and I am quite sure that if I had it on my Sequoia, the rear liftgate could not raise enough to let me have decent access, since I would have...

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

FWIW (belatedly) . . . Notice in this picture: the piano hinge is attached above the pod by enough that the nominal 3/4" sidewalls have the clearance needed to fold outboard and lie flat on the pods.

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

If you look in Post #134, Paul provided a picture that shows the sidewalls flopped to the outside, where they rest on top of the pods. The piano hinge across the base of the sidewalls allows them to fold in either direction. Anyway, with the sidewalls folded out and the front and back folded up...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Yeah, I know what you mean. Be sure to let us know if you have advice to share on that. :sombrero: Anyway, sincere thanks for another year of really great information, and best wishes for happy camper building in 2015 from those of us still in 2014 for several more hours.

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

There may be actuators added later to lower the tent platform to the pod tops. The design was done so as to facilitate their addition if I choose to go that way. We'll see. The walls fold down for lowered wind resistance/easier towing and, much more importantly, a very open feeling when camped...

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

I'm glad that you're positive about the way this is turning out, Greg. Given all of the thoughtful and well-executed ideas in your own trailer build, your opinion means a lot to me. THANKS!

2006 Sprinter Van, low miles, camperized.

There are reasons you wouldn't want a 118" (notably choppy handling and a substantially smaller living/cargo area) compared to a 140", since all of the advantages cited in the posting are available in a 140". If you would like a Sprinter van and have not yet done so, be sure to check out the...

    03' LX470 Largest Tire?

I got the "won't work" information from my Lexus service writer when I wanted to go 18-to-16 on my 2005 LX. Apparently I was misinformed. Thanks for straightening this out.

The All Wheel Drive Sprinter is Here

Ahh, the flare panels. I forgot the flare panels. Legacy of the old Gulfstream G24 Vista Cruiser. (It's a useful concept. The crosswise bed in our first camper only worked for me at 5'10" because the Seitz windows' framing and curvature gave an extra 2" per side.) I don't know what...

    03' LX470 Largest Tire?

You'll likely profit from reading through this thread: http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-is-the-largest-tire-i-can-fit-with-no-lift.263259/ and/or this one: http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/biggest-tire-size-on-100-series.7520/. The short answer is yes, 33s will fit. However, as you're...

The All Wheel Drive Sprinter is Here

Congratulations, Tad. Glad to hear this. You probably already thought of this, but as you consider your floorplan, make sure you really have all of the bed length you'll need to stretch out straight. There's quite a curve to the Sprinter sidewalls, so with the bed up toward the top third of the...

    Downsides to ambulances

One thing that hasn't gotten mentioned as an advantage of internal or hitch-mounted transport versus the trailer is that California--and, I assume, other states--have dramatically lower speed limits for vehicles when towing, On a California interstates, the speed limit is 70 mph, but only 55...
