Sharing fuel supply line for Espar heater and generator possible?

They do make a petrol version of the air heater. I have one in the XV-JP and, except for the difference in fuel, it's operationally the same.

    Piggyback Motorbike

Actually, I profit from having the Honda PS250 Big Ruckus, which, with five times the displacement, is kind of a different animal . . . and, in my opinion, a better choice as an adjunct to overlanding activities. The Big Ruckus can sustain freeway speeds and it can handle a passenger (though not...

Interior bed length of Sprinter vs VW Eurovan

Really useful photos, Cole. Thanks. It seems like most of the attention my Sprinter campers got came from owners of converted Eurovans. Regular motorhome owners thought the Sprinters incredibly cramped and tiny, but the Westy owners were usually agog at all the extra space.

AND YET AGAIN: Paul and Mike Try to Build a Hard-Sided Do-It-All ADV Trailer

Paul will probably give better information, but he's told me that the Gatorboard was a good thing to use and that it was a good core for the glassing. I'm only chiming in now because I want to suggest the possibility of using the Gatorboard for your bathroom enclosure WITHOUT glassing it. The...

Interior bed length of Sprinter vs VW Eurovan

I didn't have a 16 foot kayak available ;) but my guess is that the 170" would work for your kayak, but that the 144" will come up a little short. There'd be--again, depending on where you measure things--about 3.5 feet available between the front seats prior to running the bow into cockpit...

Interior bed length of Sprinter vs VW Eurovan

The most important thing to pass on is that Sprinters are not shorter. You're comparing the wheelbases (144" and 170") to the Eurovan length. The three Sprinter lengths are nominally 19.5, 23 and 24.5 feet. The 19.5 works like a normal (big) vehicle. The 170" is not hard to drive, but you're no...

Equipt Holiday Specials! 3 special offers available 11/24 to 12/1/2014

And my technique is even more low tech--I have webbing straps wrapped around the very sturdy handles and the metal rails of the roof rack. My box is on top of the truck and I can lock the access steps so it's not easily accessed, so security is adequate with this technique. I might not feel good...

Lithium Ion Camper Batteries - Bleeding Edge or Inevitable? Smart Battery vs Elite

Brad put LiFePO4 batteries into his very nice Kimberley Karavan trailer. Check here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/61679 starting at Post #301. Let us know what you decide.

    Unimog 1300 L

CamperMog, my former 416-based camper with a loaded weight of 16,000 pounds (a bit over 7,000 kilos), got 10 miles per gallon (23.5 liters per 100/km) in an average high speed cruise . . . that'd be with the engine close to redline at 54 miles per hour. Since the truck could hold nearly 700...

Spend enough time in an XV-JP's cabin and this thing will seem huge. :sombrero:

Mikey's Sprinter Expedition Camper: Chassis and Exterior

Oops. Sorry, missed this question for, ummm, only three months. :( Anyway, mine were a Thule product and had to come from England back in the day, and they remained a pain to source until recently. But now, as pointed out, Thule "super high gutter feet" are now a US item. Not cheap at over $100...

Possibly Buying an all Aluminum Service 8' bed to Covert to Camp Trailer this weekend

You can get some idea of what things will look like by checking out our (perhaps misguided) effort to build an adventure trailer out of a service body: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/132612 Good luck with your project.

    Unimog 1300 L

Iain has given a good summary that matches my experiences. Most Mog campers would be happier using their off-road capability to set up on a beach somewhere than being asked to travel significant distances on tarmac. They are not at their best in heavy traffic or on fast-moving highways...

    Wanting a Unimog Camper Setup...Droool

:iagree: Rob has refurbished and sold some nice trucks over the years. Also, it is certainly worth following up the nice '86 U1300L you like on Vancouver Island. Importation from Canada would be relatively straightforward, you could test drive it in advance, and there'd be no $5K+ boat ride...

    Wanting a Unimog Camper Setup...Droool

There's more about it floating around the Portal, but the short answer depends on whether the vehicle is 25 years old (to the month) or not. If it is not, legal importation for more than one year is nearly impossible. If it is 25 years old, legal importation is, if not exactly easy, readily...

Tyres for a Mercedes Sprinter 416CDI 4X4 LWB HR Crew Van

I was able to put 215/85-16s onto my two T1Ns without any rubbing. The taller profile added about an inch of clearance and they had plenty of capacity. I used Bridgestone Dueler ATs, which are not particularly aggressive ATs but still decent on mud and snow, on the first one and MS-tread...

Thanks for pointing me to that website. It's a good one to know about, since lots of their stuff would be useful in various camper projects. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

OM352-powered Unimogs may lack modern technologies, but the tradeoff is that they are stone simple to understand and to diagnosis and fix if there is a problem. As Iain points out, mechanical injection, mechanical fuel pump, no electrical circuitry at all on the engine. In CamperMog, which was...

20% OFF Odyssey batteries until Nov.30/14

I'm very grateful, too. That savings may make it time to change out $1000+ worth of Odyssey house batteries in the Sprinter. BTW--and FWIW--those batteries in that Sprinter are 8 or 9 years old and are still working correctly. Odysseys have provided the best performance in my set of campers...
