Yep. A camper for Tacos and half tons should be looked at as a hard shell tent outfitted with backpack or light camping gear. Not full expedition with all the typical RV amenities.
I know this is a dead horse but if you don't need the reduced clearance that a pop up offers, I'd go with a super light buildout on a total composites slide in or a Scout camper. The 1 foot of extra height doesn't make that much difference gas mileage wise.
I never weighed it but If I were to guess, I'd say 1100-1200 with everything in it.
I didn't need to make any modifications to my gm 1500 suspension to haul it. It rides smooth and quiet. All the weight is on the floor so there isn't much sway. I've driven it up the Mt Baker Hwy over a dozen...
Uponor Express Track and Quick Track look interesting. I already have an Uponor Wirsbo Milwaukee PEX expander and have done a few houses in Uponor expanding PEX.

Nice. I'm thinking of tearing into my house and was wondering about using that product.
Have you found any drawbacks with it? Have you been able to compare side by side with a concrete style radiant floor?
I like the idea that if there is a problem down the road, the floor could be taken up...
I'm investigating some of the pre made systems for house construction to see what might cross over.
This material is called warm board. It consists of a sheet of OSB with routed channels for PEX but instead of spreaders the whole top of the panel is an aluminum spreader. They say any type of...
Thanks for the added info.
Yes, referring to the heat exchanger inside the burner. With diesel air heaters it's best to let them cycle on for a period of time (estimated 20 minutes) to get up to max temp and burn the carbon out so they don't get clogged with soot before cycling back off. Was...
How are you figuring your flow rate and what are you using for temp control? I'm guessing your burner doesn't have a throttle and cycles on and off based on a controller. Will you measure air temp or just try to keep the glycol at a steady state temp?
Is there an optimal temperature to keep...
I've been investigating hydronic radiant floor heating and want to share some of the links that I have found. My interest is a standalone radiant heat floor system without a water heater or engine block heater although those bits could be added to system. There are other threads covering that...
I looked at marine plywood for the floor today. 3/8"thick sheets are 5@40lbs. 1"XPS sheets are 5@4.5lbs. 20' of coin mat is around 60lbs. 1gal bucket of adhesive 2@8lbs.
Total added weight for floor approximately 300lbs. Cost estimate $1200
I assume the trailer is around 1800 empty but I still...
I plan to place EPS between the ribs in the ceiling and walls and then another layer of 1" EPS over that and then skin with some type of paneling.
I'm not sure what the best thing to do for floor is. Maybe high density XPS with a layer of ply and then coin mat. I think the performance would be...
This will be my first trailer buildout. I want something for my family and dogs to camp in at the local ski hill. Last season we camped in the Spacekap which worked great and now I'm thinking of trying something a little bigger this year.
Design goals:
As light as possible
Warm and dry
Room to...
Might also want to know what adhesive and bonding method was used along with thermal properties to make sure the bond will hold up in a vehicle application.
My 08 Silverado 1500 4x4 extended cab 6.5' bed has a payload rating of 1,792lbs. The sticker in the glove box says Truck camper load information cargo weight rating 696lbs.
