Shopping for a 1st gen 4runner, any tips, problems to look for?

This is just my opinion, but this is a screaming red flag. If you are even remotely serious about buying a house then you should do whatever it takes to get one in the near future. These trucks will always be around. You will never see these house prices and interest rates again.

Thinking off buying a project FJ

I'd start at $500 for that truck. Waaaaaay to much rust.

    Differential Fluid: Syn. or Conventional

You bring up another point worth mentioning. I'm from MA, but I just moved to Dallas. I'm actually flying home to get my truck next week. Should I go with a different weight than factory spec, being in the heat?

    Differential Fluid: Syn. or Conventional

Time (overdue) to change the diff fluids in my '00 4runner. Is there a need to pay 2x as much for synthetic? Are the lubricity demands of the diffs. equivalent to that of an engine?

Found a Disco in the garage

I can certainly respect that. I'm going to go find a pool...I asked about the lakes down here and was told you must have a death wish to swim in them.

Considering i'm from Massachusetts, this isn't easy for me to get used to...especially staying in this hotel temporarily.

Found a Disco in the garage

I just got off the phone with him, and it looks like it's time for the Disco to move. It hasn't been driven in a long time and I know that it needed brakes. He is going to try and fire it up tomorrow and see how she runs. And those are pine needles on the windshield.

    Am I mad?

I think it all depends on how much debt you have. With a baby on the way and the economy getting worse everyday, you don't want to assume any more debt. If you can pay off a $6-8000 difference in a couple months it sounds like you're doing OK. In that case I'd just pay cash for a cheap...
