Dedicated Heating / Hydronics / Diesel heating thread

Sure bits of scale get into the coolant over time, these heaters are engine coolant heaters . They are designed for pre heating diesel engines, using them to heat our habitats is a small part of their market. I do understand trying to keep everything pristine. Our highest radiator in the shower...

Dedicated Heating / Hydronics / Diesel heating thread

I hope you are not using 25 year old coolant! The fact is these systems are designed for engine coolant. We have two radiators higher than the engine expansion tank,28 years of use, it is not an issue.

Dedicated Heating / Hydronics / Diesel heating thread

Having a diesel heater for the engine and a Truma combi in the back is more complicated and more expensive. This is our setup. 28 years of operation does everything you want. Engineered and installed by Webasto Italy. The habitat loop is tied into the engine coolant with the Webasto tied in...

Dedicated Heating / Hydronics / Diesel heating thread

First "fairly large". Bigger is not better in heating. A unit that is too big will cycle too often. You will get many differing opinions here, this is what I have got out of 8 years living with a truck with a 28 year old Webasto system. The original Thermotop C was replaced 6 years ago. Our...

    Water purification, LED UV, specifics....

You should take another look at your filter choices, do a little more research. A100 micron pre filter is basically an old sock. I suggest 5 micron pre filter, 0.5 micron carbon block.

    Why not use steel walls?

You answered your own question, composite is lighter, extremely strong and has fantastic insulating properties. Don't underestimate the value of lightweight materials.

UV bulbs have a high failure rate when repeatedly turned on and off. Pre filter then bleach in the tank then carbon block filter to remove bleach. Done.

The problem with winching these beasts is what do you attach the winch to? Once you get really stuck the options become local farm tractors or heavy equipment, bulldozer, high hoe , etc.

Large switch is transfer case high low. As Diplostrat says it almost certainly has a PTO. PTO will run hydraulics. You can get hydraulic winches.

Learn how to drive a heavy truck if you buy it. You cannot just jump into it and drive it like a car or pick up. The exhaust brake is an essential tool, especially in the mountains. You cannot descend on the drum brakes alone, you will have a massive brake failure. Whatever gear you would use to...

The truck in your image has 22.2" rims. Clearances are no different between 20 and 22.5" rims, 20" have more rubber. An air hose that reaches all 4 wheels and runs off the truck compressor is standard.

Material for bucket toilet & disposal

My wife and I have lived with a Natures Head composting toilet over 7 years from Alaska to Ushuaia. We always used peat moss and were able to find it every time we needed it. There is a correct amount to put in, too much is as bad as too little. You will have to figure it out as you go. We get...

Our truck has the OM366LA tuned to 170hp.Plenty of torque but lacking hp. You will have to get your head around the fact that these are big slow beasts. The OM366LA can be brought up to 240hp with a larger turbo and greater fuel delivery at the expense of fuel economy. A 1224 (with an OM366LA)is...

    exterior sealant

If you use 5200 the cap will not come off without damage, 4200 is a better option. Since you are using the caulking as a waterproofing and not depending on it as an adhesive, butyl tape or caulking may be better.
