    Time For A New Truck!

Congrats. There's nothing wrong with a gasser shifting gears. That's just diesel fan nonsense. Don't fear the gear. Let the engine spin up and scream! I'll take reliability, less weight, and less cost, over going too fast in a truck, any day.

    Why use a RTT?

Many of our "rustic" tent area campgrounds have forest spots for tents, and we park in a grass field far away. It's a bit neater with the cars long gone (but within eyesight). Hopefully more campgrounds try it. It's not too fun being the guy stuck camping in the parking lot though, but...

    F-150 Diesel

It's amusing that some get so defensive, so quickly. LOLz. There are better things to tie your ego onto.

    F-150 Diesel

For 250/2500 and bigger, I'm Ford only. After driving/owning them, and testing and getting under the others, buying a 17-18 GM or Doge, doesn't make any sense at all to me. The new 17+ is pretty darn good, especially if you avoid the nonsense plagued models. Unless the new GM/Doge 19's...

    How important is GVWR?

While I agree completely. We can't tune-up the door sticker. F150's and any SRW pick-up truck towing a 5th wheel camper is super easy to spot game, for the Highway Patrol now. EASY MONEY. People don't want to pay taxes to the HWP, they'll squeeze the yuppies other ways. The days were we...

    F-150 Diesel

I don't know where the luxury packages got all of the fan fare. Americans going into debt too often? Or just keeping up with the Jones's? The XL's are just leather and a power seat frame, away from being a Lariat from just a few years ago. I really don't like paying $20,000 extra...

Questions for the Suburban/Yukon XL owners out there...

What is the trucks payload rating? And what do ya'll weigh? Keep in mind, maxing it out, can be a bit of a headache. My passengers and me (5) this weekend: 800#. 55g stanley tool box, chain, ratchet straps, tow strap, chainsaw: 100# (maybe as much a 150#) Highlift jack and assorted...

I am thinking of a Ford F350 to build a "Poor-Man" Earth Romer talk me into it or out of it...

I've already found a few 4x4 box trucks. Not too hard to find. Construction and pipe line companies use them. We have 5 of them. Sadly, the 450's have about 2 years to go. My 350 has 1 year to go before it hits it's mileage quota for replacement. I think they'll be over your...

Long distance off-road capable moto hauler…

The new Fords can fit 37x13.5" tires on a 18x8 +18mm rim with just a leveling kit. If 37's rub, it'll be minor on the radius arms or the sway bar. And often, you can run without dropping the sway bar mounts, which cures said rub. 4" kits with radius arms should clear 37-38" easy. 35"...

Long distance off-road capable moto hauler…

Haul 2-3 bikes all of the time with my cruise set to 83. Tailgate has to be down though, with a 6.5 bed. I have to slow down for washboards and such as I'm still stock. Looking towards a 2" Carli or 4" BDS suspension, 37" STT's, and King shocks. You don't need a diesel to haul bikes. Save...

Might be easier to start with a Crewcab DRW F450/550 4x4 with a cargo box on it's back. Convert the box to a camper. Switch to big single wheels when your budget allows.

It's easy. Find a Fleet company that sells stuff and has a sales staff. Like a large heavy equipment dealer. Emergency generator dealer, etc. etc. Unfortunately many have lease-ish fleets governed by Enterprise/Wright Express. I still think a 5.0 makes more sense though.

    Offroad Capable Mainstream Trailer???

Too often the added weight for durability, just makes them less durable. We've come full circle, some of the lightweight trailers, are stronger than the heavy trailers. Bizzaro world continues. Just stick to better built, little trailers. Beef them where they need it, sell it when it...

    Offroad Capable Mainstream Trailer???

I like the Camplite trailers. No wood, and they hardly cost more than other premium trailers. Downside, they're a bit spartan, and you'll need to file some metal edges inside sometimes. https://www.livinlite.com/products/camplite-travel-trailers/floorplans-and-photos.html

    255/85R16 ST/Maxx dilemma

Yeah, that might be it. Our fleet Express vans, and solid axle trucks eat front tires by feathering them. All of them have heavy understeer.

    255/85R16 ST/Maxx dilemma

Did you cross rotate every 3000 miles? Excessive cornering speed will feather most truck tires quickly as well.

What to look for when buying a Savana/Express AWD?

Cross the lift off of your list, and add top dollar shocks instead. Express vans need shocks big time.

It's not bad, until it fails. It's called the gov bomb for a reason. Put a Detroit Truetrac, Detroit locker, or Yukon grizz locker in it's place. (depending on the year and what axle)
