Defender 130 Td5 with foldable camper

Thanks for the post; I like seeing that sort of stuff. And we shouldn't be too harsh, I don't think. As an alternative to a family tent--which it was about as big as, as expensive as, took about as long to set up as, etc.--well, it was indeed a alternative. ;)

Reynolds Boughton RB 44 Pick Up/Demountable Pickup Hard Side Body

I appreciate that first person report. Certainly seems like they will be a workable option in the U.S. once they're 25-years old. Looks to have some of the capabilities of the Pinzgauer with the advantage of being generally newer.

Reynolds Boughton RB 44 Pick Up/Demountable Pickup Hard Side Body

:iagree: A few years too new for US importation, but Canadians can have it and it certainly looks the business. Most probably a 109 hp Perkins diesel, and all right hand drives, too, and I recall something about the front axle design not being brilliant. Still . . .

$1200 '88 Toyota 4x4 Van Project For Sale through IH8MUD

The previous owner has pretty much toasted the interior of this van, so highest and best use is probably to turn it into a camper. That, plus the price drop, gets me to mention it here, completely FWIW: The exterior doesn't look too desperate: but I'm sure that the whole enterprise would be...

    House battery "how to"

If you want a dead-tree reference set, the two-book collection Wiring 12 Volts for Ample Power and Living on 12 Volts with Ample Power will provide enough information to take you from no knowledge to expert. Not great literature, but pretty readable. And if you go to this section of the Ample...

Indeed. I very much appreciate both the quality of the selection and the photography. Many thanks.

    2005 Unimog U500 - GXV's Original Camper

Well, my friend, it's a little tall for the shop, garage or storage port, but I've learned never to say never, especially as I'm sure you'd provide excellent loan privileges. As for the financing, I'll need to refer you directly to my wife, whom I'm certain will be every bit as dubious of your...

    2005 Unimog U500 - GXV's Original Camper

Thank you, David, for the excellent descriptions and photographs of your U500 expedition camper. It is a very impressive vehicle and you've done a fine job of documenting its systems and accommodations. I humbly suggest that anyone reading this thread should invest the modest time necessary to...

You saw it here first_ NEW LHD EarthCruiser

My Sprinter had this scheme, stressed by John Speed in his Travel Vans book as the only sensible thing to do in a small camper. Why, he asks, devote 10-20% of your floor space to an area that is empty most all of the time? Anyway, having lived with this arrangement, it is workable, and in...

    Got the Samurai out today!

It was indeed a charming thing, and maybe close to the best Sami around. But I was, seriously, putting about 200 miles a year on it, so the chance to have it actually used by someone who cared for it--James had used it from time-to-time and done some of the work on it--was a reason to let it go...

    Used Unimog

Ummm . . . duh. Gruesomely poor comprehension, attention span, eyesight, something . . . :( FWIW, that makes it a good deal more desirable. The number of 2450s in the US is really small, and 240 horsepower can't hurt.

    Used Unimog

Highest and best use still likely to be wildland fire fighting, and my guess is that the people bidding on it expect to keep it in that use. There are, I would think, similar trucks available that would be a better starting point for an overlander. By the way, does anyone besides me wonder...

The Official SEMA 2012 Thread! Check Back For Frequent Updates.

Thanks very much for the pictures, descriptions and accounts of the show. It's great that you save us the time, trouble and sore feet . . . along with the hassle of sorting through the blingy wheels, silly suspensions and other irrelevancies. Much appreciated.

What to pay for a 79 Unimog?

I don't think you'll regret passing this one up. It could have resulted in putting out a lot of money and time to produce a pretty narrrowly-focused rig. Nothing wrong with wanting a Unimog, though. I've often said that everyone should own one at least once. But knowing the limits of any given...

Any Experience Yet with the Superchips TrailDash

I'm not too worried about this one. I found the official JK "drive cycle" on line and I can go with that if it doesn't straighten itself out in normal driving. It'd be worse if I was about out of registration, but in a fit of advanced planning, I started six weeks before the deadline, a good...

Today Eugene, Tomorrow Ushuaia: Overlanding (sorta) on A Big Ruckus scooter

I admit that my first move was to put my XR629R on the back of the XV-JP, but the BR would work just as well. I'll get a picture soon. (And I'm so inspired by re-looking at my pictures, I think I'll put the Big Ruckus back into my signature line to inspire it. :sombrero:)
