Two weeks bouncing around the desert with family in popular and less-popular places with a DIY pop up camper that managed great over hundreds of miles of pretty rough terrain.

Just a 7.5x8’ box on a DIY flatbed. Camper is hard side pop up 2” and 1” XPS laminated fiberglass/epoxy. Camper plus flatbed only weighs 500lbs more than stock truck and is 2,000lbs under GVWR. Three beds, shower, toilet, stove, sink, diesel heater. Electric actuators lift top 22” for 6’4”...

My $4,000 DIY hard side pop up just rallied White Rim supporting six cyclists carrying 400lbs water and a ton of gear for everyone. Stoked on the simpleton build. Earthroamer wouldn’t fit here…

Exactly. These 550 builds are ridiculously huge, and once they get stuck, are irretrievable by most.

It looked like failure and massive buckling on the cab/camper interface as well on the "Ascender", which ironically, could not ascend. I'd be hesitant to buy any of their builds until they had some proven background and real people using them. The Ascender looked like an utter failure on many...

YES...so awesome to get a glimpse of what it will look like mounted. Amazing looks great.

Same, because it's built relatively low tech with common materials and is super functional and tested.

With the work you’ve put in it would be a shame to half ass it now!

Maybe finish outside, paint it, mount it, get some "not-so-instant" gratification, then finish the inside? Your patience is admirable, as is you dedication.

No reason to be in a hurry and 65mph is plenty fast.

This is my next build, but for a flatbed.......I'll be watching.
