Like you said the people youve seen full time spent the winter in FL and you go out in April.
A teardrop, in a snow storm, while fun for a weekend, is not my idea of a quality full...
I would think the biggest draw back to a tear drop would be exiting the inside to cook or reach the vehicle. Especially in winter conditions.
Other than that, it’s really just a place to lay down. Tear drops aren’t really full time friendly in my opinion though.

That’s exactly what I did, well the other way around. When my unit hub bearing went out I bought the free spin kit and new ball joints from Dynatrac.

Most people push the awning forward so that it extends over the cab. This way when it unfolds it still covers the rear tailgate. It won’t work if you can’t mount the awning above the roof line though as it would block the door if it were lower.
Personally I’d love to see a 80”-90” square back...

The front door style fridge that people are adding in the canopies on flat beds are very nice. Small but nice.
The issue using one becomes cubic volume. On a top loader, the vertical space is filled as you stack everything on top of each other. But on a front load you can only stack it so much...
Most are made in China to my knowledge with the exception of only the super high end like Kingsman, James Baroud, Alucab, and Bundutec.
