Looking for a Sleeping Pad? I spent a year testing 23 different models.

Got it yesterday and longed around in for a few hours. Not too bad. Will take a little fiddling to get a good feeling amount of air. Squishy vs firm is the experiment now!

Water shoes (not the crappy mesh/rubber ones)

Brothers in kind! I did look at the high tops but went with the lows for two reasons. 1) hightops tend to make my pants, wheather jeans or other type, rest funny on the shoe. Strange huh? 2) the lows were about 15 bucks lower. I figured if they were going to suck, I wanted to pay less. I have...

Looking for a Sleeping Pad? I spent a year testing 23 different models.

I bought a therm-a-rest mondoking. Should be here soon. I hope it is very comfortable. Since I’m a side sleeper, my hips normally dig in HARD at night. Was not a problem in my youth but now over 40 it’s a big deal. I would rather be hungry the next day than be tsore and tired from bad sleep.

Water shoes (not the crappy mesh/rubber ones)

I know!! I know!! Altama OTB maritime assault boot. I’m a huge dork for military stuff so I gravitate to stuff like this. I also wore Altma jungle boots exclusively while in the military myself and can attest to the quality. I bought the low top OTB shoes. They look like a pair of tacticool...

    LETS SEE YOUR TRAILERS!!!!

Something cool unearthed on my M416A1

Hey all. Today I had been scrubbing and sanding on the fenders of my trailer. The underside of the fenders were so Gunked up I decided to soak them them in oven cleaner and most of the gross crap came off afterwards with a pressure washer. While doing so, I came across this marking. Some sort of...

1973 Wagoneer - Full Size Camping Goodness

Just picked up a M416A1 version myself. Got a set of old school military tires in the mail and have started to strip the paint. Looks like it was painted over at one point. Lots of surface rust but nothing at all structural. I’ll watch you and learn since it looks like you are about a week ahead...

M416 tires. Question about tubeless on wheels

Hey everyone. The military tube type tires on the trailer are pretty rough looking. The inner tubes seem to be ok as they are holding air. But I need new tires none the less. From what I have found on line, 225/75/16 are a good replacement in terms of size. However, it’s the mounting that...

Any try and use a mil-surp silk parachute as an awning?

So me being be, I dig military surplus stuff because of good prices and they tend to be fairly rugged. I ran across some parachutes and thought that the would make a decent awning provided good support was used. Yeah, I know awnings can be ready bought, but like I said, I really enjoy working...

    Ok, school me on coms

I've been using CB and ham radio since the early 90's. Lets see if i can answer a few questions: I personally like CB. It's inexpensive, easy to use (channels vs frequency), readily available (get an entire setup in Walmart), nearly universal (truckers, jeep/off road clubs, blah blah). Ham/...

    Cobra 18wx went deaf WTH??

So I mounted a cobra 18wx in my wrangler for two reasons: WX band and front firing speaker. It worked fine for a few months and then all of a sudden, ZERO CB reception. Transmit is fine as well of reception of the WX Band. Anyone else experience this? I thought I had read a few things...

Rear mounted spare tire Antenna/Jerry can mount

I was a bit concerned with the rivets as well, so I bought some fairly heavy duty ones but cannot for the life of me remember the thickness. Aaaannnnndddd since this is not attached to the Jeep all the time, it will not get super usage to cause lots of wear. Had I been making this for daily...

Rear mounted spare tire Antenna/Jerry can mount

Right you are with the SWR. Once everything but the grounding straps were done, I ran my buddies antenna analyzer on both my 4 foot antenna and 102 inch whip. Got it dialed in for “good enuf”. No need to go for the magical 1:1 as anything below 2:1 is fine with modern radios. I have a fairly...
