Payload in Tacomas- Canopies and Suspension Question

Yup. DaVikes and I were having that same discussion last night. It would be nice to get a little bit more power and payload out of the Tacoma platform with the same form factor. While the paper differences aren't that large, a full size pickup can be quite an impediment to those who live and...

Payload in Tacomas- Canopies and Suspension Question

I think top coating all of that would be to your benefit. POR-15, without the UV top coat, is susceptible to degradation in the areas exposed to UV light. A coat of paint on top should help protect things underneath. From my limited experience brushing it on is just fine, it does a decent job at...

Payload in Tacomas- Canopies and Suspension Question

Thoughts on the windowed frame boxing kits? That would provide some space for water to escape or to clean/paint the inside of the frame while still providing some of the benefit of being boxed. It's a compromise solution for sure, but better than nothing. Can't find an actual picture of some...

Battleship Jones: 2015 Tacoma DCLB Build Thread

Link me plz. And I hear you, I was researching local CNC wood routers that could cut out my pieces but determined it wouldn't be feasible to pay the $250 for the BB plywood, $600 for the Accuride slides, then another $100-300 to have the thing bedlined in addition to the time I would invest...

    Newb Re-gearing question

Nope, the 265/70R17 is a nearly stock tire size that was spec'd from the factory with the 3.73 gears. Unless you've added a significant amount of weight to the truck or have future plans of going to larger tires a re-gear isn't mandatory at this point.

Battleship Jones: 2015 Tacoma DCLB Build Thread

After years of contemplation and searching I finally pulled the trigger and acquired a set of TruckVault drawers for the bed of my truck. I've always had the intention of adding some drawer system to the bed of the truck, but have vacillated between building some or buying some. There are a...

I might have to take you up on that offer. I can't help but feel that once I'm loaded down the 3.73s might feel a bit sluggish. How was Turquoise Lake? Never been up there.

Whose truck did you end up buying? What are your revs like on the highway with the 4.56s and 285s? I found that while towing it was either sitting at like 2,500 rpm in second gear chugging up a pass at 28 mph or screaming at 4,000 - 4,500 trying to hold some speed. I think I'd appreciate the...

All good things to consider, thank you Scott. I also have to thank you for the reminder to look at your build thread and I pulled a few relevant nuggets out of there that I will be using here shortly (mainly the transmission cooler tidbit, I need a bigger/better one). The trailer will most...

I thought about that but unfortunately it would require a) new rims (currently on 16s) and b) shelling out $327 per tire :snorkel: I suppose a 295/75R16 is closer, just an inch wider.

It would appear that I will have to make a decision here on my tire dilemma soon. I'm almost sure I'm going AT, either Duratrac, KO2, or AT2, I'm not sure I can go wrong with either of those 3. The decision is size. I'm on the schedule to get the hail damage repaired at the end of this year and...

Every time I drive with the windows down I hear the jingle jangle from the zippers on the awning like a pair of automotive wind chimes. I very much value peace and quiet, noises mean something is wrong. So I went to Home Depot and grabbed a can of Plastidip for tool handles and dipped the pulls...

    3rd Gen 4Runner Tech Question

I assume you've checked to make sure that everything that is supposed to be tight is tight (LCA bolts, ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, wheel hub, UCA ball joint, UCA bolt, steering rack bolts, steering rack bushings, steering shaft joints, etc...)?

Small update, I finally found an acceptable way to carry my Escaper Buddy traction mats around. Maxtrax come with a fancy harness thinger that loops over the spare tire and has ratchets and hooks and stuff. I took the easy way out and fed some 4' NRS straps through the holes in the spare tire...

I'm 5'7" and the wife is 5'5" so a 6' interior height should work out nicely, especially since there should be no pesky AC protruding down. Right now our layout has a queen bed, a kitchen cabinet with sink and space for a camp stove, a small bench for a cassette toilet, a propane fridge and some...

Those who have ARB Dakar leaf packs are more than likely familiar with all of their squeaks and clunks and various other noises. Indications in paint on the leaf springs indicate that this is primarily a function of them shifting from side to side. This was unacceptable to me and I set out to...

    Tundra or Tacoma?

I also vote Tundra if it is between the two. More power, more comfort, minimal price difference, and minimal difference in fuel economy. As has been said unless you frequently run narrower or more technical trails the Tundra should be more than adequate to take you the majority of places you...

Pongo, The story of our 2016 Tacoma

That low end grunt and improved engine braking have me seriously considering a set of 4.88s for my 2015. I haven't run into issues with having to hit obstacles at speed but do have to use the brakes a bit more than I'm comfortable with going downhill. Good to hear your thoughts on that matter as...

Colorado diesel narrowly beats Tacoma in head to head comparison

So I went and test drove a Tundra at lunch time today for sharts n giggles. 5.7L, double cab, 6.5' bed. Initial impressions were that it didn't feel that much larger than my DCLB Tacoma. Floor was lower, ceiling was higher, passenger is noticeably further away, but not a ton. Back seats, even in...

Colorado diesel narrowly beats Tacoma in head to head comparison

Honestly, I think you'll be greatly disappointed if you go with a midsize truck like the Tacoma or Colorado. Full size definitely seems like the right size and you are correct in saying that you get a lot more for the price than you do with a Taco. The Taco is great for us folks who will tow...
