I went with linear actuators on ours as even the gas struts was still a struggle getting it up and down. We have a little sway in ours but nothing that makes us feel uncomfortable. Not knowing what size of tubing was used for yours or if it's actual telescopic tubing it's hard to comment on...
The screen is failing on my original Delorme InReach SE and even though I use it paired to my most of the time, it won't be long before I won't be able to see the options on the screen to even power on and off. There have also been some reports of the falsely triggered SOS even with the...
For a long time in the Jeep world, it was one of the few quality full size racks that didn't require you to drill any holes in your Jeep, carried a decent amount of cargo, and didn't look ridiculous. I got mine back in 2013 in a relatively short amount of time - 10 weeks. However...

I've come up with a new plan recently and while it's not completely trailer...
Curious to see what you consider "hot" temps? Also, you are saying 3 days straight without any outside charge? I assume you are putting the battery on a charger when you bring it back home if you are discharging that deeply.
You can reuse the bracket off the original axle if your new axle has a 3 inch tube. They were pretty easy to cut off. That's what I ended up doing with my build and it's worked great so far.
I'm curious, did Discount Tire give you anything for the stock tires? We just got a new 4Runner and I'd like to do the same thing. We're going to go with a similar build methodology.
I can't get any maps to download on Android all of a sudden. App either freezes on "download map" or when you name the download and hit "save" I've sent feedback.
Welcome to the madness!! It's great fun and it's the project that keeps on giving. I'm getting ready to do a couple more projects on mine.
As far as the round tubing goes, the issue I had with the welder who messed up my side posts was not that posts twisted but that the weld got so hot it...
