Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

Whoah. I thought my posts got long winded! Okay so here is my status so far... #1. Charging circuit is currently a Harbor Freight Tailgator. As mentioned above. And a B&D 25amp (not sure how but it pulls max 4 amps at 110v). Neither of which is ideal or anywhere near ideal. Or even in the same...

    Electric Chain Saw???

Just my $0.02 worth. I live in hurricane territory and need a chain saw at least once a year. Not necessarily due to hurricanes, but very strong thuderstorms, etc... I bought a Remmington corded electric chainsaw in 2001, it finally died a miserable plastics failure in 2019. A good 18 years...

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

Okay I made some adjustments to certain orders as I doubled up on measurements and wasn't happy with certain things. So now it looks like... #1. Camco group 27 battery box order is cancelled. NOCO Group 27 battery box is in. Thank you amazonrocks for your review pics on the 3 in 1 USB charger...

    Camp shower advice needed

I never measured time. Didn't seem to matter. But the process was simple. Fill bucket about 1/2 to 2/3 with cold water, fill boilers, in my case I used a 12 cup percolator, and an 8qt stock pot as I was using what I had in the kitchen at home. Run them to a boil pour in, test, keep pouring...

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

So verifying the wire gauge of the 12v outlet, it uses 14awg. I am trying to find correct wire ampacity for this, I believe that it would be 15amps correct? The reason I ask is so that I can select the proper fuse for the fuse holder... Again I am thinking 15 amps.

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

I love Will Prowse's stuff... I work in IT and am the guy that gets OCD about network cable routing. It comes with the territory. I am aiming for reliability, not absolute ease of throwing it together... So yeah I am going to overbuild it a bit where I can. The 2KW Inverter generator I am...

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

Okay so so here we go. I think I have it down. So The group 27 marine deep cycle battery has a standard automotive terminal, and a threaded terminal on each side of the battery. This will be key here. The charging circuits will be on the automotive top post terminals Supplies in progress or...

    Camp shower advice needed

I see this thread has been resurrected, so I am going to chime in here as it is a matter of discussion and due to the Texas freeze out last month, something that got a bit of a workout for me. I have a Zodi Hot Tap instant hot shower, now mind you Zodi seems to be no longer in business since...

    Whynter 12v Fridge reviews? Alpicool?

IF you have room under your hood, I would suggest adding a second battery. Unforunately that sort of space isn't as common nowadays as it used to be... Your RV or 4x4 shop should be able to help you out with that. I would go with a deep cycle AGM type battery as they take deep draining and...

    Whynter 12v Fridge reviews? Alpicool?

Just from MY perspective, YMMV of course. I don't have any personal experience but more friends from the 4x4 club experience so here goes. Whytner fridges from my friends experience have been problematic, with poor customer service. One of the guys that has one is a high end refrigeration /...

    Sleeping bag or duvet?

I'll be blunt here. I am considered morbidly obese and am working to fix that. Docs heavily involved yadda yadda yadda... I use a model unknown but Coleman King size, as it it literally when opened up measures out to cover a king size bed, sleeping bag. I have 2 of these, and 1 that matches...

    Replacement Pop Up Canopy Bag

You have options, and I fully, completely and LOUDLY agree about using YKK zippers. Option #1. Get a custom bag made by a trim / marine / upholstery shop. Use the original bag as a template and work with the shop for any changes you want to make. This will likely be a bit steep priced but...

    Off-road office set up

I do some remote work while camping. Part of the reason I got a bigger ground tent. So in my case I have an Ozark Trail, sorry I know cheap, Dark Rest 10 10x14 instant cabin tent. 2 double high twins make a king bed on one end, some foam floor block things for flooring, roll top table and...

    best swamp cooler location

If you will only be in Desert environments go ahead with the evap cooler. But if you have any intention at all of being comfortable in coastal / southern climates then go with Air Conditioning. Evaporative coolers are effectively a wet towel with a fan. Cooling is created by the expansion of the...

Post your camping / gear lists!

Apparently there is a character limit per post. So continued from my last post. Vehicle Recovery: Harbor Freight 18" tool bag. The thin, nasty old style. I use this as a sandbag over the winch cable in case it snaps. Harbor Freight Hercules 18" Tool bag that holds the loose stuff. Engo E9000...

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

I was planning on a solar install at some point, sort of toward the end. Do they offer charge controllers that would allow 110v AC to 12v DC charging of the batteries as well as solar inputs?

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

I had FSA funds to burn at the end of 2019, so I stocked up on CPAP supplies, and bought myself a travel dedicated CPAP. I do have the AirSense 10 for home, but the Z2 with the I think they call it a rebreather or whatever, it captures your own humidity and puts it right back in, so no...

Tarp Material and how to attach it to itself.

I'd be concerned about long term durability of polyethylene tarp material. It isn't super UV stable. Now if you were talking Canvas Tarp material that would be a COMPLETELY different story. I would check on it, but I believe there are various waterproofers that also include UV blockers that...

Electrical system for DIY camper build. A LOT of questions.

Well, just as a note. This camper build is going to be EITHER a slide in truck camper, OR a flatbed camper depending on if I can convince my wife to let me pull the OE truck bed. IF a flatbed camper is to be, I will build a box just below the bed floor. It's an '04 F150 4x4 with a 4" lift and...
