    Cheaper alternative to ARB awning?

I have a 13x13 EZ Up. It sucks up storage space in the rig to transport, AND it's very vulnerable to wind. You MUST make certain you are staked down REALLY well. I can't tell you how many times I have seen instant canopies tumbling down the beach or campground, and getting all busted up.

No worries, good luck and be careful. Remember to use a helper to keep from dropping that window!

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

You are absolutely correct, there is pretty much no safety feature set whatsoever on them other than using your head... Provide plenty of fresh air, light it OUTSIDE, and keep anything flamable away from it... I used my 511A while sleeping solo in my Coleman SunDome 5x7 tent. I left the windows...

    Resealing an ARE topper

I've never done it with an ARE, however I seem to recall it was a Leer we did back in the 90s. the windows may be different since then, but the interior bezel of the window was held on with phillips screws. Have a helper keep the window from falling out while you unscrew and remove the bezel...

Budget Friendly approach to "weekender" overlanding rig...

Been busy with other related projects, so the build isn't going as fast as I would like. I have dug out my 7 gallon Aqua-Tainers (x4), and plan on using them. THe big question is can I branch the pickups together to pull from all 4, or should I simply drop a pickup down into the tank being used...

Is the TX4x4 club the last to use Citizens Band?

A couple of the 4wd associations in my area, as well as hunting clubs insist on at the very least hand held citizens band radio for intergroup communications for trail rides, and overlanding. My rig is pretty old, I originally bought the gear in the early 90s, and aside from occasional...

    Large insta tent

The tent I want to replace, is actually in very good condition, it's just a LOT of work to set up and take down due to its complex pole design. It's a Wenger Swiss Gear Appenzell that my wife bought at Sams Club when we were dating. She LOVES huge tents... As you can see there are these tip...

    Large insta tent

Okay now you've done it... Question time... What BTU output is that AC unit? Do you use it off grid? If used off grid, how do you power it? How do you get the zipper to close in around it better to keep bugs, snakes and the like out? Is the unit you are using powerful enough to keep the tent...

Budget Friendly approach to "weekender" overlanding rig...

They may have gotten better over the years. Mine was labelled "Coleman Extreme 5 day cooler". The lid was just an empty void. It wouldn't keep ice for 24 hours in a 90 degree Texas summer in the shade. I filled the lid with expanding foam, and capped the holes with epoxy, and thus far, 5 days...

Degenerative disk disorder with sciatica. Combine that with a lifted 4x4 truck...

I have 2 considerable health / mobility issues. One as I mention in another thread, is obstructive sleep apnea, the second is degenerative disk disorder that has lead to sciatica. I can climb to a limited extent, but a gentler slope than a straight up ladder would be far easier for me to...

Well, please keep us posted. The long time brands that used to stand for premium quality are not living up to the standards they once set... I've seen the Core tents on Amazon, and my curiosity is up. Overlanding is a bit of a tall word for what I am doing. I am boondocking on what little...

That's the approach I am working with. HOWEVER, I am not even close to full timing it. I was underr the impression, right or wrong, that the OP is a weekend warrior type... Full time is a different kettle of fish all together. FWIW, For MY application, for use on trips up to 1 week in...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

The shortcomings of the Buddy heaters, most notably the voracious appetite for fuel, dumping lots of moisture into the heated space, and seriously spotty reliability record including a rather dramatic plastics failure of the handle on mine that caused a smashing introduction to concrete, got me...

    Residential fridges

Not arguing that point. Any, and I mean ANY power consuming device will, well... consume power. Totally agreed. There is going to be a cost to run anything like this. Either a cost for a less efficient dorm fridge, or a more efficient portable 12V fridge. The smaller 3.5 cu ft RCA uses 149.5...

    Residential fridges

Some factory rigs, and more than a few DIY campers use dorm fridges. I guess it depends on how crazy off road you are going to get, but generally speaking, the dorm fridge arrangement works well. Since I don't know what size you are looking for, I can't recommend a specific unit, but I have a...
