Nice Chris! I can hear the Gary Hoey "Endless Summer" soundtrack playing in the background....

Inflatable pillows, are they any good?

Same for me. I put my backback or duffle at the head of my sleeping pad, then the Fillow on top of that. Works great.

Inflatable pillows, are they any good?

NEMO Fillow is quite good. Fills instantly, packs small, smartly designed, cans stuff in clothes to raise height as desired. We have several and they've held up for a few years now.

Gen 2.5 Transfer Case Lever - Install

The forks move forward and backwards pretty easily. Just move them with your fingers or use a large flat screwdriver. I posted some photos in a thread a awhile ago

    Cleaning Gen III Intake Manifold

I've a similar discovery on my gen 2.5, actually mine looks worse. Theory is a bad EGR valve. Solution recommended by IncorporatedX was a cleaner called PurplePower.

    Random shots

Wow Pat. I had no idea! I just read your terrific account of the storm on your blog post. Bummed to hear about the studio, but gladdened at the way you've embedded yourselves into the local community. I know you get wonderlust like the rest of us, but it truly seems like you've found a...

A Cheap and Cheerful Build - Geoff

I didn't see a replacement EGR valve on your list. They are $7. Get one. I didn't see spark plugs either, or a alternator and battery. These are things that have a limited lifespan....

    Best Modification for <$100

X2 on the seat covers and white ball transfer case shifter. While over $100, upgrading to new KYB shocks is definitely a good thing to do. Amazon had a deal last year for all 4 shocks for under $200 I think.

Happy to help. It's what these forums are for. Believe me, I have benefited a ton as well. It's a good community.

Gen 2.5 Turn Signal / Blinker

I've replaced the blinker on both my Montero's. Its easy to do and cheap, and a stocked item at AutoZone. You take off the steering column cover, then pull the turn signal stalk out of the column by unseating it from the socket it's in, and then plugging in a new one.

    Newbie lens question

Kerensky touched on the real answer. The prime lens with faster Aperature will have better low light performance, generally sharper image quality, and MUCH better depth of field control. This gives you the ability to blur the background and foreground of a shot. The canon 1.8 is considered...

General question.... Gen 2 or Gen 3?

Nope. There's a genuine amount of pleasure derived from driving something as solid as a Gen 2 for the dirt cheap prices they are going for. It feels like you are getting away with something, it's an illicit pleasure. Sort of an embodiment of the old saying "Drive it like you stole it!" Or...

    Photo Editing Software recommendations

Ignore Basil, he's like a super pro, with amazing photos and deft touch with the software. His skill level makes everything look easy, it's deceptive! The good thing about Lightroom is that there are a gazillion tutorials on it. Hmmm.... wonder why? Could it be because it's a complex...

    Lens question for Canon

There are lots of online lens rental companies. I highly suggest trying out a few. I personally used a Canon 100-400 for shooting gliders with good success, but those are a lot bigger than birds :-)
