    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

Thanks Ryan, yes, I know for sure that I had provided the new style crank bolt (and washer) to the mechanic that did my timing belt job a while back. Also, in collecting parts for this new rebuild, I got another new crank bolt and washer direct from the Dealer, and they confirmed it was the...

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

Here is a quick update. I spent the last 2 days in bed with Pneumonia or Black Lung or maybe it was just the Flu. On Friday I attempted to remove the radiator but was stymied by those two little hoses on the bottom that lead to/from the trans oil cooler. My son (6'-9", long, long skinny arms)...

    Gen 2 Rear Bumpers

I love the looks and utility of the first bumper, but it seems quite large. Monty's have big enough butts as it is. I'm always dragging my rear bumper off rocks and ledges. I think this first bumper would excaberbate that problem.

This would make an awesome overland rig

I giggled when the first image loaded. 15" body lift, that is hilarious. Might be fun to take mud bogging though, assuming the engine and gearing are up for it

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

Well, step one didn't go so well. Tried removing the radiator. Can't get those two little hoses off the bottom that go to the trans cooler. Those squeeze clamps are diabolical! There's no easy way to get pliers onto them, and not enough room to pull the hoses off the fitting once I've got...

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

I'm not sure I'd save any money making my own tool. I'd have to buy a grinder, and buy a welder, and take some night classes to learn how to use it. Again, I am handy with a circular saw and hammer....but I don;t have any metal working tools or much by the way of wrenches

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

Thanks for the feedback guys. Unfortunately, I was unable to source all the parts in time to do the job this weekend, though I will start with the disassembly. Now to figure out where to find the special tools the FSM lists... Harbor Frieght?

Is there? Can anyone corroborate that? If something just fell off, that would be awesome! Unfortunately, these covers are a devil to find. I found a lower cover in San Diego and the Upper right cover in Colorado. Parts: $100. Shipping: $115. ouch!

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

I have no idea. Been afraid to even start it up. Actually.... Does it do "what" exactly? What issue is that video supposed to demonstrate? Given my suspicions that the water pump is toast, and the radiator is now dry, should I risk starting it up?

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

In discussing this more with my son, it seems that the Monty overheated the other day, and then suddenly it was fine..... sounds like classic water pump failure signs to me. So, assuming the water pump died, and started leaking into the timing belt area....what the heck would cause to chain...

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

When it comes to mechanical skills on engines and things.....I'm a pretty good rough carpenter :-) So today my son drove the Monty home from school (about 3 miles door to door), when he parked in the driveway, he heard the gush of liquids and some boiling steam coming out of the front end. He...

cigarette lighter not working 1999 montero 4x4

The fuse box is just above the dead pedal, kinda behind where the hood release lever is. I don't remember the fuse position, but it's silk screened into the fuse box cover. Question: Is the fusable link on the socket replacable, or do I need an all new socket?

part number for head light washer Reservoir Cap ?

LOL, I need one too. The white plastic gets really brittle. I had nabbed one at a junk yard a while back, but that one desintigrated also

Need Canon T2i Tips and Tricks?

Some good advice here. I particularly agree with Grogie about renting various lenses to try them out. I use the 16-35 f2.8 most of the time for off road shots. I have found it helpful to have a polarizing UV filter on the lens to deepen the blue sky and to physically protect the lens...

The truck looks great lifted and fitted with those tires, but it seems that articulation has been reduced a measurable amount. Is that an accurate observation?
