I've been comparing NatGeo's Topos vs DeLorme; and I like the DeLorme a whole lot better. For one thing, it will zoom in a much more than NatGeo and the routing feature is great.
I have never made it to the "rich person" category, but have been driving a G since 1984 - currently a 2000 G500.
A good place to look for G specific information is: http://pointedthree.com/disc/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=57
Yes to the small pulleys at each corner. It's a Harken Hoister. See here: http://www.harken.com/pdf/4907.pdf
PS - I, too, had a KimberleyKamper; and loved it. See here for a few images of it: http://www.pbase.com/flydutch/kimberleykamper
The AirTop and other Maggiolina tents have loops built into the tent on both sides to mount the awning. I haven't hooked mine up yet either, but it appears to be a relatively simple procedure.
Thanks for the response. When you say the TN is "more expensive", you're not kidding. $299/state for the Win 7 compatible version vs about $50/state for the NG. I doubt if I would need a 6X more expensive version. The difference could get quite large if I wanted more than one state.
Again...
What's the current best topo software for Windoze? I have heard good about the National Geographic Topos? Are they still considered to be the best? It doesn't look like they've been updated in a while.
Perhaps my eyes are bad. The owner walked me through EuroTruck's warehouse earlier this week; and pointed out all the AVS spare parts, boxes and even a factory rebuilt 270CDI engine scattered all over the floor. I guess I must have just been imagining things.
I would be curious as to how you mated the Rhino-Rack ?bars? with the Q&E feet. In my opinion, you gave up some goodness and stability of the wider R-R feet.
Rhino-Rack
The attached photo is a Maggiolina roof tent mounted on Rhin-Rack roof bars.
As stated above, Rhino-Rack recommends their bars for off-road use. Thule and Yakima very specifically do not.
Use their selection guide. They make a mount specifically for the G-Class. I have them, and they are superb!
If you need specific Rhino-Rack part numbers, let me know. Don't let them sell you the too long bars that they think are necessary. They're not!
Ah! Ignorance is such sweet bliss!
Cabrio is short for cabriolet, which originally came from here:

I'm not even going to waste my time on your other comment.
Lots of experienced G diesel heads over on this forum.

You'll probably get better answers to your mechanical questions there.
