Source some vehicle insurance, don't drive at night and cross the border with a full tank of fuel, a full stomach and an empty bladder.
You'll be fine.
The OEM filter and separator should be sufficient to protect the system.
Be careful modifying the low pressure side of the fuel system as it can impact the fuel system as a whole.
Take the truck to a shop to see if the relative and absolute fuel pressures in the system are within spec.
Its wise to add one if it didn't exist in the first place.
Protection against water and dirt is easy, protection against cross contamination with other fluids isn't and is often overlooked.
Everyone wants to travel and explore far away lands and remote locations. Once you start crossing borders and jumping continents, vehicle preservation should be forefront in an overlander's mind.
Only add a filter and water separator if neither currently exist in the fuel system.
Otherwise let the OEM filter and water separator do their thing. OEM filters and water separators are sized to protect the fuel systems they are used on. Just carry additional OEM filters and your good to go...
You can't have a frame designed to flex be constrained by a rigid body. Torsion free mounts allow the frame to flex and yet protects the rigid body from that flex. Otherwise cabinet frames will crack and split, plumbing fittings will fail and window and door seals will wear and start to leak...
I use a Garmin GPSmap62s. Route and track planning are done in Garmin BaseCamp.
You can't beat a device that can show you where your at, point you with directions to where you want to go and if you have tracking turned on and displayed, where you've been, all at the same time.
Source a locking fuel cap if you can.

Cross contamination with other fluids is a totally different issue that very few people ever talk about.
Fuel quality is indeed a concern on modern CRD engines. But its the emissions components that can bring your travels quickly to a halt. It's easy to protect against water and dirt comtaimination, but impossible to protect against contamination with other fluids such as gasoline or alcohol...
I can see some advantages to a RTT and camping beside a vehicle, but having to offload and repack gear at every stop and in ****ty weather, not being one on them.
I'm all for going to remote places, but there have been times where parking up and pulling out the steps and unpacking a single...
