I drive mine offroad every chance I get, but it gets mostly Hwy at 70mph. It has 170k miles and I have no worries for it. It always surprises me with just how capable it is in stock form. I have driven up trails that I never should have attempted, but the Montero never showed signs of strain...
I was wondering if anyone has seen these or considered importing the diesels. I know registration/emissions might be problematic, but this is intriguing.

Hey TDeSanto, I have found an old post showing a 285/75/16 tire on your factory spare mount. I want tires in these size and would prefer the same size spare. The picture however is not shown. How well did these tires fit on your spare mount and how much spare did you have?
Nothing that I know of. In 03 they switched most over to the 3.8L. Others may know more, but 03-06 should be the same with only a refreshing of the body styling. Too bad we cannot get the newest generation in the US.
Those made 2003+ are slightly more desirable. The 5-speed helps with fuel economy, but I'm not sure if the XLS model still had the LSD. A Limited model will have more luxury SUV features like the rear A/C and wood trim. An XLS will be the base model, but only lacking in trim and accessories...
That price seems a little high for no A/C. There should be others in that price range with fewer issues. Springs and O2 sensor are not a major issue though. The new sensor will help with the MPG. I would definitely see it in person and check it for any other small issues. Should be able to...
Thanks. I actually am looking at yours and Imnosaint's builds as inspiration for when the building does begin. First on the list is new Toyo Open Country AT II's 265/75/16. I talked my uncle into putting them on his Jeep to replace the Wranglers, they are magnitudes of an improvement.
Here is Fred Beans. Part #21 in the diagram. I have ordered many parts from them.

Replace all spark plugs, and timing belt. Check for OBD codes (even if the engine light is not on). Also check fuses.
Another one is to confirm all vacuum lines are correct. I had a shop reverse the EGR lines so the car would shut off until it warmed up and would have a rough idle (I would...
It should not be. I would believe that there is a dirty O2 sensor. Although mine has been showing a code since 2006 and I haven't had any issues running regular in the 3.5L.
