To my knowledge the cab and engine mountings are the same between medium duty 2x4 and 4x4 trucks/buses. I've worked on a few of them and own some older International Loadstars in both flavors. I know International and I think Bluebird 4x4 school buses start as a 2x4 and go to Tulsa truck for...
I think that is a little big for what you're running. Look for some axles and transfercase from a Forest Service 4x4 engine. Mixer axles are for lots and lots of weight so the pumpkin is centered and huge. The smaller axles found in an International 4300 size 4x4 have the pumpkin off center. I...
Yes it does.
I just went a picked up a RTO610 for my shortbus 4x4 build, bought it last year. Have a 1997 DT466 with a p pump to put in front of it. Hopefully this fall I'll start on the repower.
Not 4x4 is not a deal killer, the rear over hang is though. Not sure that thing would be exactly legal with that much box sticking past the rear axle. Wonder how it affects the handling? Swingout on it has to be awful!
I'm local and a mechanic if any members on here are serious about getting it and road tripping it home I'll check it out for you. Only payment required is starting a thread and posting about it on here!
Good to see you're not LS swapping it, AMC power all the way. The supply of old trucks and their parts are definitely drying up and cost a lot more than I remember from my days as a young man. I owned a '78 Levi edition widetrack with a 4 speed years ago, man that was a fun ride.
Sportsmobile for sale in Hayden ID, not mine, just see it driving by for work.

X2 on Irate4x4.
I know they made some open knuckle Dana 70 steer axles for Ford Fsuperduty 4x4 conversions and Chevy medium duty 4x4 conversions. The ones I've seen and worked on were 1980s and 90s rigs. I have one from a early 90s Ford Fsuperduty tow truck. They had 10 lug hubs and used Dana...
Speedos are year 'round wear, just wear GoreTex speedos in the winter.
I grew up in northern CA near the coast, there's something just awe inspiring about being on the beach in a raging winter storm. Makes a person feel very small and insignificant compared to mother nature.
Nice job. The 8LL is going to be so much more betterer than your old 545 boat anchor. Your bus will be able to leap tall mountains in a single day now without overheating or running away on the downhill. Good job on replacing the rear main seal while you were there too.
