1998 Mitsubishi Montero SR (with Locker)

X2 The dash bulbs are very cheap (ask me for my dealer info if you want great service and pricing) and very easy to replace. After seeing Roger's gen 2.5 again recently, this one sure has me thinking...

Looks great, Lawrence...just like it belongs out there. Great find. Can't wait to watch the progress.

    How much water?

Really, just 48oz of water per person for hydrating and cooking? I consume at least 2 quarts of water per day just for hydrating. Now, if the weather is hot, I think 1 gallon, as a minimum for hydration, is a safer bet.

    New Nikon 16-35 f4G ED

If you're lucky enough to still shoot with film or one of the new FX bodies, then instead of spending that kind of dough on a lens that would likely be used for landscapes (i.e., on a tripod and taking your time), then I'd recommend spending the money on three prime lenses: the 20mm, 24mm, and...

    Blade & Arbor

I think that must be their standard hole size for Safari Snorkels, as that's the same one I used. This would be useful for anyone looking to install a snorkel themselves. It's not that difficult...just measure 30 times and cut once ;)

    New Nikon 16-35 f4G ED

I'm not sure I understand the benefit of this lens over the venerable 17-35mm f/2.8. Sure, it has VR technology, but is that really needed at the wide angles? When shooting with my 12-24mm f/4, I've never been in a situation where I thought I really needed VR to capture a scene or would trust...

    My New Trooper

Great looking expedition-ready truck, Paul, table and all. I'm still stoked you were able to find such a well-outfitted vehicle. I suppose we oughta post up the pictures from BBRSP at some point, eh?

Maxi, thanks for all the info. I sure wish we could get the TDI engines and the 5.29 gears.

Diesel + 5 speed transmission, and 5.29 gears, I could see how the gen II might easily handle the larger tires. 4.88 (sure it's not 4.9?) for the gen III might be pushing it with 38" and 44" tires with a petrol engine. Now if it also has a diesel engine and the 5-speed auto, I could see how...

    Action Packer Hold-Down

Exactly what I was thinking. No doubt it looks like a nice product, but the Action Packers aren't that great and certainly cannot hold a candle to Pelican or Storm cases.

What gears are used in both the gen II and gen III trucks when using such large tires? I'm using 4.9:1 for only 33" tires. Are there higher ratios available to you?

    Favorite Droid apps for overlanding

I guess it really is a blessing or a curse, depending on the POV. For me, losing cell phone coverage is cathartic. :smiley_drive:

    Favorite Droid apps for overlanding

I think the compass looks to be the most useful app mentioned so far. Most of the apps mentioned to date require cell phone service. I'm not sure I understand the usefulness of an application for overlanding purposes that requires cell phone service to function.

    HAM radio/amateur radio FAQ

Thank you for posting. This is a list of repeaters, though. I was hoping for a list of commonly used frequencies for when people need to connect to anyone for emergency communications. I carry with me the ARRL pocket repeater guide, but it's not that common that the repeaters are that close...
