    Pricing thoughts

Could you please list the location? Also, additional pictures might help. As for KBB value, what are you using? Private Party value on the '98, adding in features as leather, sunroof, roof rack, and grill guard, and being optimistic that it's in "excellent" condition (instead of good or fair...

option for quick disconnect winch wires

Anderson Powerpole I think these are what you need. You can find them here. They're rated to 350A 12V. They're sold individually, but you'll need a pair, likely for 2AWG wire.

How capable is a 2001 GMC 2500HD extended cab, longbed off road??

I think your best bet is having the proper gear to get unstuck. Make sure you have good, durable tires, shovel, air compressor, hi-lift with the lift-mate (if it fits your wheels) could help you a lot too. A recovery strap and recovery points on the front and rear would be good, if you can...

    Snow Peak BBQ Box

I've used it too. It's louder than loud, though. Also, unless I let it heat up quite a bit, I had a hard time keeping it from blowing itself out when inverted (necessary if the coals are down inside a small grill). It states that it can be used inverted, but again, I had to let it heat up quite...

    Snow Peak BBQ Box

No lighter fluid necessary or desirable. I now use the SP chimney, but I've also used non-toxic fire starters as the fuel to get the charcoal lit without the chimney. This is just an example of what's out there. Any store with 1/2 a selection of decent grilling accessories will have something...

    home made sand mats?

Ditto. Think 5-8 PSI. Be careful not to turn the wheels too much until you get air back in them. Driving a tire off the bead would make matters worse with sand getting in there too. Not insurmountable, but just adds to the work you'll have to do.

AT Horizon Storage - What did you do?

We use the driver's side box for our pantry and other odds and ends. We use small plastic containers of various sizes.

    The more important locker!

Mike, You forgot to add that you already have an LSD in the rear. My vote is for the front. It's not ideal (ideal might be LSD in the front and locked in the rear), but if you can only afford one, having a locked front and LSD in the rear will get you a bit farther than an open front and...

2nd Generation Montero - Educate Me

He must be, as I noticed quite difference going from my gen II to my gen III Limited. The moment I opened the sunroof and enjoyed the view, I forgot about the loss in headroom though. I just lowered my seat a little bit. ;)

What gear and how to setup Hi-Lift as winch

Have you considered getting the Off-Road Kit from Hi-Lift? In addition to that, a winch extension or extra chain to run to the anchor point or vehicle and then a length of chain to run to the vehicle or anchor point. Chain that is probably best matched to the hi-lift is 3/8" grade 70...

Overland Society volunteer weekend work trip report - Oct 27-Nov 1, 2009

Wow, I didn't need to see that. :sombrero: I wish I hadn't done that. I read Rosanne's post; then scrolled up to see what Sinuhe had done. Hopefully I've learned my lesson.

AT Horizon Hub Swap and a few other Mods

x2 on getting the fridge tie downs in place. With that torsion axle, those straps won't stand a chance on even washboard roads. The turnbuckles should secure it very well. Looks like you're well on your way. You're really going to like the Horizon.

    Tow strap vs. Kinetic rope

How to know which tool is right for the job? Given all the various ways people cautioned the use of kinetic straps, this is what I've been able to glean from the discussion: 1) Use caution when using kinetic straps due to the fact that you cannot accurately measure the applied forces...
