Thanks Laura for the correction. You have a better memory and take better notes than I do. It was great to relive the adventure through this thread. I am glad you got through Yellowstone without an earthquake or volcano eruption.
Sorry for the late reply on this, I was on an extensive off-road trip with my FX4 and did not see this thread. What is your "the FX4 package is garbage" statement based on? My 02 FX4 has proven to be very capable off-road. I bought the first year model when they came out because it is very...
Here is a little scale reference on Skalkalo water fall. Interesting how it goes under the road and continues on down as a more shallow water fall.

There are many burned trees in that area too. Must have been a huge fire there not too long ago.

Honestly, I have done some pretty serious off-roading with just a 1.5" torsion bar lift and 33" tires. I don't attack obstacles without regard of consequences and watch my lines carefully. You may be surprised where you can go by utilizing some good skillful driving.
If you don't know about TRS, try it out. There are some pretty knowledgeable people on the forum and may be able to help you out. Here is the link. http://www.therangerstation.com/index.shtml Stuff pops up for sale in the classifieds periodically.
Here is a representation of the typical method of removal of material from mines around Garnet. Can you imaging a one man operation that had to fill his basket, up to 100 ft down, and then climbed out to pull it up to unload then climb all the way back down to start all over again. Plus they...
With 33" tires, I would go with go with the 4.10 gears. I run 4.56 gears with 33" tires and that is perfect for my heavier, lower powered vehicle. I don't think you would be happy with the 3.73 gears even with a lighter vehicle with more power. I ran 4.10 gears for a while with the 33" tires...
I don't know where that information comes from but I have experienced the opposite. I wanted to reduce weight on my SCCA race car and it had a three row copper radiator that was heavy. I did not have a problem with cooling but did not want the extra weight. I found a two row aluminum radiator...
I am one of the G's. Here are a few more shots along the way.

This is a view of Delmoe Lake where we camped the first night I joined in. It was very cold water but the young swimmers (not shown here) didn't seem to mind.

My current truck came with 31" AT tires. That is what I ran on all my off-road vehicles since 1977. They got me everywhere I wanted to go and a few places I was told I shouldn't go. The worst damage I ever got was a flattened tail pipe. Once I bought my last ruck, I decided to try 32" MT...
Martin, I saw the NP8 but the description didn't seem to match up with what you had described. I know zero about a Suburban. Fortunately, you know which transfer case you have. Good Luck in getting your problem resolved.
Martin, Rockauto.com has an AC Delco motor listed for just under $200. It states it is GM original equipment. It is for the NR4 transfer case which it sounds like what you have. You do have to pay shipping also but should not have to pay tax.
My brother bought a few for me when they had a auction to get rid of the spares they had after Wildernest moved everything to Colorado then went out of business. Unfortunately, I have sold all I had but two. I have one new one on my Wildernest that I installed when I refurbished everything on...
Guidon not only did the fiberglass, they also assembled the entire thing. My Brother worked for them and did field adjustments.
If you really are interested in a rear screen, I think I may have a spare. Let me know.

Here are a few pictures of my Wildernest in action.

This is in Great Basin...
You may be able to scare of a bear with small arms by firing it into the ground but trying to slow down a bear by shooting it will just piss it off. Even big guns can have a difficult time stopping a bear.
I had an 89 STX Extended Cab with a 6 ft bed and a Wildernest on it that I bought new in 89. I still have the Wildernest but sold the STX in 2002. The STX was a great truck but I needed better access to the rear of the cab an got a four door Ranger (two half doors). It is nice to have the 4.0...
The larger wheels do have some advantages but so do the 26". I still have fun on my 26" and plan to do so for a ling time. That is unless I can't get tries or wheels for it anymore. The availability seems to be slimming down somewhat.
