Dodge RV 2wd to 4wd conversion...doable? Worth it?

Better yet, find one that already has had this conversion. On random occasions, my google searches for "4x4 motorhomes" dredge up such things, but I tend to ignore them. A quick search just now turns up a 3 year old ad for a '73 4x4 Winnebago with a 440, scroll down a bit at this page...

Trail Outfitters New Expedition Rig...Toyota 4X4 Chinook

Hey Nook, PM sent. Speaking of Chinooks, one newer improvement to this search site is that they capture images from Craigslist now, so we can more quickly pick which Chinooks to look at. Can't say that I've seen any 4x4 conversions to the Toyotas there, don't know if anybody ever converted a...

    CL find - '77 BLAZER CHALET - $2500

Updated link for the one above: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/1730418667.html Meanwhile, here is a "Save it from the CRUSHER alert" - '77 Chalet in Denver $800, no engine: I just talked to the seller of this one (#1009, built 1/77) in Denver, he says it has a week to live before he...

FWC on a blazer Denver CL

Had a hand in that, in a roundabout way. In my usual searches for Chalets, I found his prior ad version where it just said "Pop Up camper", so I emailed him and advised that he include the "4Wheel" brand name in the title in order to snag more of the nationwide bunches of guys searching for one.

Craigslist-Ford bronco with four wheel camper

In my zeal to track every Chalet remaining in existence, I learned the hard way a couple of years ago that some Craigslist ads are deleted by the sellers or get flagged for removal within hours. Now, the moment I see one, I copy the text and photos to my computer, while immediately printing out...

    Somebody snatch this up!

Since Chalets are sometimes labeled as "Chinooks" (especially the one in Tinley Park Chicago), I use this jaxed.com search page to spot 'em, but it mostly picks up the Toyotas or van-based Chinooks, along with a few of the Datsun versions.

    CL find - '77 BLAZER CHALET - $2500

That's one of the guys in our Yahoo forum, whose growing family + 'garageability' put him into an older 2wd Sportsmobile, and out of his Chalet. Regretfully, rust doesn't buff out easily on these old Chevys...

    Intressting Blazer

Always glad for more eyes on the lookout for these. Regretfully, this one is on its 20th eBay listing since June of last year, see my prior post about it here. If the seller doesn't receive his $9,900 reserve, odds are very high that he will re-list it next Saturday. Nothing especially wrong...

Living on the road vehicles (non-rv's)

Chalets. The owner of our Yahoo Chalet owner's forum is an oilfield worker who has used his a a daily driver / overnight camper while driving to field sites from Arizona to Canada. I still have my lists of the ones for sale around the country, updated as often as I can, Google map here with...

    XJ camper conversion info

Variation on the theme, I did this photoshop alteration last year. Various guys around the country have turned Suburbans into convertibles by hacking off the back and engineering it to accept the standard removable Blazer cap. Seemed to me that a FourWheel brand camper ought to fit on it like...

    Expedition Camper by IrbisOffroad

Now appearing over here. One of the guys in our Yahoo Chalet owners forum alerted me to that page.

The iPad. Possible perfect in truck computer, or not?

I wonder if there is a way for the thing to act as a screen for a rear view camera.

    Troopy Pop-up Camper

Nope, but is an aftermarket FourWheel brand pop up on a Blazer. It looks like one I've ran across in Colorado Craigslist ads where the Blazer is toast but the camper is in good shape.

    Cedro Peak, NM

My old stomping grounds, I lived in the tiny neighborhood in the center left in the pic below. That straight line to the top of the peak in your 4th photo was a power line, don't know when the poles were removed. Our nickname for it was the Beacon Mountain, because in the late '50s (?) it had a...

    Earthroamer body source

Interesting. Looks like a company that's useful for other expo vehicle / trailer ideas. My biggest gripe with my camper's Chinook-designed roof is the way it does not overlap the walls, but sits within the perimeter. Probably this company could take my roof and use it as a pattern to nicely...

As a favor for a neighbor, 1976 C-20 Chevy Van set up as a camper

Quite sure. XIt isn't my neighborhood. But I am one heckuva nice guy.

As a favor for a neighbor, 1976 C-20 Chevy Van set up as a camper

Craigslist is beyond my generosity in helping out this individual, unfortunately, and he is really not in a position to deal with the assortment of people who would call if I put his number in a CL ad.

As a favor for a neighbor, 1976 C-20 Chevy Van set up as a camper

**11/4/10 update: Still available, to the best of my knowledge, I see it nearly every Saturday.** Not mine, but a neighbor of my parents at their Mesa Arizona retirement community. The seller does not use computers and otherwise has a limited ability to advertise it. Since it is on the old side...

    Blazer Chalet on Ebay

A note of clarification there, the blazerchalet.com web site is not mine but is put together by two of the original Chalet nuts named Aaron S. and Doug W., and Doug is the owner of the Yahoo forum - I am merely the Chalet diseased #2 moderator there, covering for Doug during his absences due to...

    Blazer Chalet on Ebay

Good idea before buying one is to know what you want out of one. I knew these were rare and potentially somewhat valuable as a collector vehicle, but I still wanted one mostly for actual camping. That's a slight mistake, because now I think I'd be wrecking the value of mine by altering it to...
