    2005 TJL Tiedown rail instalation

If it were me, I would mount it flat as you have in the last picture. I have the same mounts in my XJ, and you will likely never have a straight pull. I use them as an angled pull all the time, and they work great. If you dont want to mount them flat, then the angle iron would do the trick for...

    2005 TJL Tiedown rail instalation

I assume this what you are talking about installing? I have something similar in my jeep and just bolted it down. You could even use a bunch of short sheet metal screws, that way you wouldnt need to get to the backside of them. Would be much better than JB weld IMHO. ~James

    2005 TJL Tiedown rail instalation

I think bolting it to the sheet metal, (albeit thin), is still a much better option than JB weld. I guess a picture of where you are putting this would help, since I honestly am not familiar. My opinion (take it for what its worth), but a tie down is only as strong as what its attached to. In my...

    2005 TJL Tiedown rail instalation

I dont think JB weld would hold up for that type of application. Atleast not in my experiences with the product. Can you just bolt it on? ~James

FS: Tube Bender 2 DIES $400

Probably a long shot, but I would be intersted the dies if you want to separate. Just saying. ~James

    Rebuilding my *free* 8724 winch.

I know there are many good write ups and info on the web about this winch, and they have been helpful to me. I just figured i would post up some pictures of the process of my rebuild. The short story: My fathers buddy got a 81 CJ7 and decided to have my dad restore it for him. It came with a...

    Leafspring nightmare

Yeah, the unibody/hidden nut is what makes it tough on the XJ. I have had spring bolts seized in plenty of trucks (including my old tacoma), but you can atleast get to both sides of the bolt without chopping the body up. Anti-seize is your friend. Good luck, ~ James

    Leafspring nightmare

I too have been through that nightmare. My bushings were seized on the bolts as well, especially in the front hanger. I ended up making a claw that fits under the head of the bolt, and attached it to my buddies slider on his tacoma with a 5000 pound ratchet strap. I had to keep a ton of pressure...

How to mount and dismout roof mount tent

I put mine on and off several times by myself, but its not easy. Mostly because its too big, not for the weight. Mine weighs about 100 pounds. I just lean it against the side of the jeep, hoist it to the roof rack, then slide it up and on the rest of the way. I will be building a lift system...

Stumptaco's has gone over to the darkside..XJ style.

Thanks! I now have my two kids (2, 90 pound dogs) in the back, so I am building a trailer to hold all of my camping gear so they have a spot to hang out in the Jeep with us. Thats correct! We still had fairly strict requirements, but nothing compared to the TUV. Thanks! I think there were a...

Stumptaco's has gone over to the darkside..XJ style.

Just doing a little update since its been a while since I have posted anything in here lately. I had to get a new transfer case since I broke my old NP231. I had a front driveshaft come loose from the tcase side on my jeep (pulling into my driveway no less..) and it got bound up between the...

    EarthRoamer Cost?

I figure my statement would ruffle the feathers of some, but I kept it civil in my opinion. Bottom line line is, you cant argue with someone's perception. The trucks are expensive. I don't know if they are 'overpriced' or not, and frankly have no reason to care since I wont be affording one...

    EarthRoamer Cost?

EDIT: I created a new thread here to continue the discussion regarding the price of an ER, and remove it from a for sale thread. SB Dang. If only they were $150,000.00, I would buy one. Nice trucks but geez. Thats expensive. ~James :Wow1:

    Jeep Cherokee CB Radio placement

I have the firestick style K40 and it works like a champ. Sorry guys, I dont have a write up on the console. It was just something I whipped up a while back. Basically made out of 1/4" birch on the sides, thinner stuff on the bottom side, and a scrap piece of carbon fiber in front of the CB...

    hmm...lift thoughts

True enough. I have a full leaf pack in the rear that is fairly stiff, and 6" coils up front. The truck is fairly well stiff in the roll department. I also drive like a grandpa on the road, not the case for everyone. ~James

    hmm...lift thoughts

I dont see the need to spend the money on the JKS disco's. I have a set and they have been unhooked for months, and I am driving my XJ daily right now. I will sell them to you for a good price if you still think you need them. I agree with you on the rest of the stuff except the shock...
