Have you thought about a mount similar to the one AT makes? Look on AT's site under awning and see what you think. I keep wanting to get one of my more talented friends to make me a set.
I agree with everyone----don't cut it. If you are going to us it for camping you will probably need to make some changes. The SOA is easy and yes you can keep the hand brake. It is easy.
For the wheel match you can get adapters or do an axle swap.
Get a tarp for a cover for a start and...
Great build and am enjoying all of the decisions that have to be made. My son and I did a build project together on an M416 a few years back and now we are going to spend the summer reevaluating what we do and do not need and start making the mods.
Keep the pictures coming.
You are a brave soul!!!!!
It looks like fun and based on the extent of needed repairs you can modify to your hearts content.
You in TX (I noticed the plates)?
Looking great! I am curious as to weight that the Tacoma will have to pull. Since I have one too yours will be a good model to "borrow" ideas from! LOL
Are you going to put a receiver in the back?
Welcome to the M416 club!!!!!
They are great projects to work on and will quickly eat up your time and spare change but are worth the effort!
We REQUIRE lots of pictures (so we can borrow all your good ideas).
Thanks for the replies. I am thinking the 10 leaf is the way to go and Midwest is saying the same. Thanks I need to put some bounce (but not too much) back into the trailer.

We tow an M416 with original axle and adapters to accept stock Taco tires behind our 2012 Taco double cab. No tracking issues. This picture still shows old jeep tires.
Plenty of folks insure trailers. The trick is getting them to agree to value you place on it. Word of advise, it is a "camping trailer" and not an "off-road trailer".
I have the same fender issue whether I use my jeep tires or adapters and Taco tires..
I need 14" wide fenders. I am trying to finally do this before our May trip to OX15..
