The saga continues:
Baertrax in Dallas has mounted the lid. In order to make it fit they welded 1" x 1" angle iron around the tubing. The tub is not square so it is close but not perfect. They did a great job. Everything is working great on the lid. The struts are extremely heavy (175 lb)...
Photos would help but all CJ's are worth something and many are collectible. You should go to www.jeepforum.com and go to the CJ section and talk it there.
I will try to answer these the best I can.
This is probably how it looks now.
The axle currently has the spring pad on the bottom and the brake actuator above the axle. No matter what way you flip it, this remains the same. You want to keep your brake actuator above the axle but you need...
Color is powder coat primer on tub and basic primer on lid. I will put up pictures of lid and RTT as soon as I get this thing back again. I am planning on painting tub to match my jeep and lid will probably be black. Interior of lid is white and I will be mounting some LED's in the lid...
Mine is a work in progress. Here are a couple of pictures. One when I got it, one when I powdercoated it. and one on its way last week to have the lid mounted.
Update of 4/1/13- with lid and RTT
Don't need a spring over for stock tires. Size of water tank will dictate need for spring over. If you are trying to match bolt pattern on tow vehicle you will need new axle or adapters for the stock axle unless you have a 5 x 5.5 pattern like my CJ.
I have been working on mine for almost two...
Try US Wheel Adapters in Aurora. They should be able to make what you need. I hear they are familiar with the M416 axle and the large center hole issue.
I will chime in with my 2 cents on this.
I kept my axle but the pattern (5 x 5.5) matches my CJ so I am lucky. I love the e-brake on the trailer. Packing the bearings is no big deal, as said earlier they are easy to find. Punched out bearings and races and replaced in a couple of hours...
Just a guess but I say an M416 with an "aftermarket" tailgate modification. Hard to tell but looks like end of top tube is open on tailgate. If so, good chance it was modified.
Either way a great find!!!!!
I will give you $200 and come get it; a $50 profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They look great.
I am not one to say anything about "starts" as mine will be 2 years old in June and still not finished. It may make it to Overland Expo this year but it will still be "wearing primer"!!
Spared no expense on that rack!!!!
Sounds like you are getting almost all of it blasted. You won't regret it in the long run.
Keep the pictures coming. Let's see those fenders!!!!!
UPDATE:
The trailer is finally seeing the light of day again!! It is hooked up to my son's Taco and being dropped off at Baertrax in Dallas to have the lid put on, minor holes in tub welded up and Thule rack put on. Hopefully we will get this back quick so we can break out the RTT and put it...
I had mine sandblasted and powdercoated with a base primer. The cost to sand (I could not afford soda) was about $300 I think (it has been a while). I found about 15+ small pinholes in the bottom when the rust was gone. I am having a few welded and will bedliner it so the rest will be filled in.
Welcome to the madness of the M416!!!
As one who has been sloooooooowly re-building an M416, I feel your pain and enjoyment at the same time.
A wide variety of opinions on the axle/spacer issue. Since the M416 pattern matches my jeep, I chose to keep it. Some guys put spacers and keep the...
