3rd gen 4Runner potential buyer. Advice needed

All this, plus check the rear axle seals. If leaking, subtract $1200 or more from the price. Budget for new springs, new shocks, new tires, new radiator, complete all-fluid change. Be prepared for the steering rack to need to be replaced. Toyota-4runner.org is a good source for buyers...

Reliable sat phone service in PNW

No direct experience, but I'd check Iridium because it's probably the only game in town. Inmarsat phones require a more and more lower-to-the-horizon clear path the farther north you get.

    SAT Communicator or SAT Phone?

The Inmarsat Isatphone Pro allows it's GPS position to be sent as the content of a text message or email with just a short sequence of button pushes. I assume---but do not know if---the current Mk 2 model has the same function. It's not 'panic' button simple, but it's there. You can also have...

    One-burner propane stove?

Whoever gets one of the coleman single burner units, be prepared to grind/file/wire brush the bottom edges. The one I got had seriously sharp edges from the casting.

What Radio to Buy? Some tips to make a good decision

I inherited 4 Motorola GMRS HTs, which I hand out to the other vehicles. Works great 'cause not everyone---meaning no one I know---- is into spending money on comms.

    Goodyear UltraTerrain AT Tire

That America's Tire site is very cagey about their load rating; they flat out don't quote the familiar 'Load Range X' but instead use something called Load Index which specifies only the weight carrying rating of the tire. Update: I saw a photo(on a Tacoma forum) of the sticker on a 20" version...

The Wescott's Turtle III On-board Fire Extinguisher

More specifically, the type BC (not ABC) extinguishers contain sodium bicarbonate as the powder. Sodium bicarbonate is just baking soda, it's dry, doesn't 'melt' and should be easy to clean off. Of course, it's still a fine powder and therefore presents a danger dust-sensitive areas, like...

    Fuel can storage

I've had California gas 9 or 10 months old w/no additives, used it in the 97 4Runner, no issues. I try to swap it every 6 months. Different engines may react differently.

    Fuel can storage

This is my approach. I keep 2 cans full in case of disaster. Where I live the most credible disaster is large earthquake that knocks out electricity for a few days or a week. No juice, no gas stations. I'm afraid to leave a small amount of gas in the can in case it partially...

    Camp Stereo

Yes, the small Hondas and other modern generators are way quieter than the old rattly, noisy ones that I've usually encountered as built-ins on RVs.

Hard to say which would be be worse: A quiet generator... or music that I don't like.

    Camp Stereo

There are lots of small devices to choose from. There's something to remember: Due to the immutable laws of physics, the smaller the loudspeaker, the less loud it can be. Less ability to go loud equals less dynamic range. Less dynamic range equals audible compression, which makes the music...

    Camp Stereo

I'm not troubled by your attitude as written...it seemed clear you were being somewhat strident in order to make a point. I think many of us here have camped in both in crowded State or Fed campgrounds, and also in the more dispersed, 'wildernessy' places.

    Corroded battery connector help needed

Thin-metal Garmin battery contacts are notorious for breaking away. See if/what Garmin charges to fix/replace. Leaking alkaline batts destroy [probably]millions of dollars worth of gear, worldwide, every year. I've collected $$ from Duracell several times.

    SAT Communicator or SAT Phone?

I have the earlier Mk I Inmarsat phone, but have never needed it for an emergency. You better bet that I tested it when I first got it, and test it every time I re-up the prepaid service. One nice thing:If your service provider (in my case Satphonestore.com) allows it, you can buy 30 or 90 days...

    Garmin Inreach, communicate your plan!

Good of you to post this reminder about the importance of learning how to operate whatever comms are being used. I'm also curious as to why you didn't reply (using the Garmin web interface) with a request for more details.
